Pie chart step by step

The intelligibility of the provision of information data and their accessibility to the human brain primarily depends on the form of their presentation. Therefore, many try to visualize information as easily as possible and as convenient as possible to present the audience its necessary aspects. In this case, pie charts are quite effective. They are used almost everywhere, where it is necessary to show the ratio of the parties, the percentage of the total amount and so on.

A pie chart is a convenient way to display data, because it allows you to divide different columns of data into different sectors of the same circle, thereby emphasizing which segment the information occupies in a single information space. It is worth noting that the advisability of using this type of diagrams only applies when the data is to be divided into no more than 6 structural parts. For example, if you have 5 types of items in your warehouse (books, magazines, pens, covers and pencils) and you need to graphically show the percentage of filling the warehouse with one type of product, the pie chart will be the best choice, at the same time, if You have more than 50 items of goods, then the advisability of using this type of diagrams is significantly reduced, because graphically this representation will not be a very illustrative example.

The easiest tool for creating a pie chart is Excel (a table processor presented by Microsoft). Moreover, this application has in its functionality not only this type of diagram, but also many others.

Let's look at how to insert an object such as a pie chart in an Excel environment. First of all, it is necessary to enter data on the application sheet, according to which the object will be built. Then you need to perform the following sequence of operations.

1. Go to the "Insert" tab.

2. On the toolbar, select and click "Diagrams".

3. In the "Insert Chart" window that appears, click on the "Circular" item, select the diagram subtype (Circular, Secondary Circular, Volumetric Circular, Split Circular or Secondary Histogram) and click "OK".

4. If you did not previously select the data on which the pie chart will be built, a clean canvas will appear in front of you on the current sheet, called the "Chart Area". It is worth noting that at this time Excel will switch to the "Working with diagrams" tab, which has a submenu: Format, Layout and Designer.

5. To build a diagram, right-click on the "Chart Area" and select the "Select Data" context menu item. In the "Select data source" window, fix the range by which you want to build a pie chart, and click "OK".

As a result, a diagram will appear on the sheet that will match your data. If you do not like the colors of the chart sectors or its layout, you will want to individualize the captions, then you can easily select the required parameters in the above submenus. You can also move the chart to a separate sheet. To do this, just click on the "Move a diagram" button in the "Designer" submenu.
