The prepositional case and the rules for using it with prepositions

Russian refers to those languages in which there are cases. True, if they were not, then other indexes of the function of words in sentences would be used, such as prepositions, postpositions, and the order of words.

Traditionally, in the school curriculum in the Russian language, six cases are studied, linking words in the sentence and indicating their syntactic role. Declination occurs by changing endings in nominal parts of speech: nouns, pronouns, numerals and adjectives.

Each of them can be asked a question that distinguishes one case from another. In addition, there are additional words that help with declension. For example, the prepositional case has help words to "think", "dream", "regret", as well as case questions: "about whom?", "In whom?", "About what?", "In what?" With suitable Pretexts.

It has quite a variety of meanings. If the prepositional case is connected with the questions "about whom?", "About what?", It can be coordinated with both verbs and nouns. That is, it can be both invasive and primal.

The brisket is used with various pretexts. For example:

A) "about", "about" - to dream about vacation, to think about salary;

B) "by" (has the meaning "after") - at the end of the school, upon receipt of the parcel;

C) "when" (for indicating landmarks or circumstances) - to live at the estate, to be registered at the theater, to create at the department, to be present at the examination;

D) "in", "in" as pointers to a place or object, if something or someone is inside - to live in the city, to be led into the forest, to sit in the hall, to be in the courtyard, to notice in the view;

E) "on" as a surface indicator - in the East, in the sun, to stand on the shore, lie on the couch; The location index - to be at work, to be in a responsible position, to study at the Faculty of Philology; The object pointer over which the action is performed - focus on solving the problem, stop at the most interesting place; The index of conditions, circumstances or conditions accompanying the action - to be on pension, to stay on vacation; The pointer of an object that is an instrument or material, as well as a time indicator of action - ride a bicycle, cook in oil, play the violin.

The nouns of the plural also agree with him . For example: life in cities.

The primitive prepositional case is used with nouns and with verbal words, controlling the case - a report on Russian art, on the principles of combating smoking.

Often, the primordial is used with such pretexts as "in" and "on", as well as with the preposition "o", if it is necessary to designate the sign, property or quality of the object. For example: a sheepskin coat with sheepskin fur, a leather-bound record, a horse with four legs.

It happens that schoolchildren misuse the prepositional case, the endings are confused. For example: "I miss him", instead of the correct version of "I miss him." "I fall on it," and not "I fall on it."

If the student confuses the prepositional case with others, then he needs practice in the declension of nouns and other parts of speech. The most important thing is that when doing exercises emphasize and memorize the endings, which often depend on the pretext that the word is used with.
