NLP - what is it? NLP: training, books, training

Many people know such an abbreviation as NLP. What is it, know not all. After reading this article, you will get acquainted with this area of psychology, which has received great popularity today. Neuro-linguistic programming is what NLP stands for.

What it is? We can briefly answer this question in the following way: it is an area of psychology that studies the structure of subjective human experience, and also develops the language of its description, is engaged in revealing the ways of modeling and the mechanisms of this experience for improving it and transferring the identified models to other people. First NLP was called "meta-knowledge". In other words, it is a science about the structure of our experience and knowledge.

More on the title

The first part in the title "NLP" ("neuro") reflects what should be understood as "brain languages" for describing human experience. These are the neurological processes responsible for the processing, storage and transmission of information. NLP makes it possible to understand how internal perception is structured. The second part - "linguistic" - indicates the importance that language has in describing the features of behavior and mechanisms of thinking, as well as in the organization of various communication processes. The final part - "programming" - emphasizes that behavioral and mental processes are systematic: in Greek, "program" means "a sequence of steps that are aimed at achieving a particular result."

Consequently, the title as a whole reflects the fact that NLP refers to the subjective human experience and to the life of people as to the processes of a system that has its own structure. Thanks to this, it becomes possible to study them, as well as to identify the most successful experience, which we usually call talent, intuition, natural giftedness, etc.

A holistic approach in the theory of NLP

What is this area of psychology, you now know. We note its main features. You can consider NLP as a scientific field of knowledge, and even as an art, because it can be represented at the level of practical technologies and tools, and also at the level of spirituality. It is based on a holistic approach to the study of human experience, based on the concept of unity of spirit, body and mind.

The authors of NLP and the studies on which they relied

NLP was born as a result of the interdisciplinary interaction of various researchers who studied the experience of such great psychotherapists as Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls, Milton Erickson. Its founders are professional linguist John Grinder and psychologist and mathematician Richard Bandler. In addition, the co-authors of NLP include Judith Delozier, Leslie Cameron, Robert Dilts, David Gordon, Frank Pucelik. Today this region is actively developing and supplemented with new developments. Constantly growing circle of its co-authors.

NLP as an integrative independent field of knowledge has grown from models of practical psychology, while incorporating the best from a practical point of view. It was initially very eclectic, but over time it acquired a powerful methodology based largely on the epistemology of G. Bateson, works on the theory of communication, the ecology of the mind. In addition, the theory of logical types B. Russell, which became the prototype of logical levels in NLP, was used. What is it, you will find out by referring to the books on NLP.

At the first stage of its development, it began with the modeling of Fritz Perls. This person is the founder of Gestalt therapy. The modeling was carried out taking into account all the most important principles and approaches of Gestalt psychology. That is why, as NLP looks at mental and behavioral patterns, it is connected in many ways with the Gestalt method. The second "model" that was used is the special linguistic patterns that create a trance state of different depths. They were used in the work of Milton Erickson, a well-known hypotherapeutist. John Grinder, relying on the works of Noam Chomsky, achieved a doctorate in linguistics. Therefore, it becomes clear why linguistics should also be attributed to the scientific roots of NLP. Its authors proceeded from the idea that in the linguistic structures and in speech the subjective experience, its internal processes are reflected.

Among the scientific fundamentals of NLP, among other things, can also be attributed to the development of behavioral psychology. Its founder is A.P. Pavlov, Russian Academician. Especially important are the discoveries in the field of conditioned reflex activity. The authors of NLP focused their attention not on the mechanism of reflexes, but on the difference between unconditional and conditional, on the study of triggers (external stimuli) triggering a specific reflex. This topic in NLP is called "anchoring".

NLP - the way of manipulation?

NLP today has become more famous. To study some of the technologies and techniques can be pretty quickly and almost immediately feel a practical benefit. Unfortunately, in the media sometimes some people say that NLP is a way of manipulating. However, in fact, it's just a set of techniques and description techniques, something like an alphabet that helps transfer knowledge. NLP, like any other tool, can be used for both good and bad. For centuries, manipulators improved their skills, long before NLP techniques arose. Therefore, it is wrong to connect these phenomena.

What can you learn by mastering these techniques?

First of all, you will learn to better understand others, their needs and needs, can clearly communicate their thoughts to the interlocutor. A person is often unable to clearly and clearly express what he would like to say. You will learn how to ask the right questions, which will help the other to clarify your thoughts, structure your ideas, and also save you time and energy.

Note that NLP - a purely practical thing. He should be trained, practicing skills and immediately applying them in the case. Studying in practice and in books is like comparing a person who can speak freely in a foreign language, the one that can only translate with a dictionary.

Why do people attend NLP trainings?

In addition to practicing practical skills, you will meet many interesting people. You can, together carrying out the exercises, not only communicate in a relaxed atmosphere, but also make friends, see yourself from the outside, and also note in others your own mistakes or moments that you have already managed to cope with. NLP training is usually quite fun. Much time is spent not on lectures, but on practicing the knowledge and skills that are being studied.

In addition to cognitive tasks, others are also being solved in the training process: to spend time with benefit and interest, to understand yourself, in relationships with other people, to set goals for the future, to solve the complex tasks facing the participants of the training. Together, this can be defined by the term "personal growth".

Duration and specifics of trainings

Usually NLP training is inexpensive. However, it has a specificity - if you seriously study it in order to subsequently be able to freely apply its elements, the process of training skills should be given quite a long time. Therefore, the minimum time for a certification course is 21 days. Classes are usually held once a month on weekends and last for 8 months.

Practical benefits

NLP programming can help you in different areas of life. For example, when starting a conversation, people often do not realize what they want to get as a result of it. Many problems can be avoided quite simply if you constantly remember the purpose of communication. This will not allow you to commit insulting mistakes. What else can be noted NLP rules for every day? Think before you start a conversation, what you need it for, what purpose is before you, whether the interlocutor understands your position, what arguments he may have. People are sometimes so addicted to the process of the dispute that they can forget about everything, including the possible consequences. Ability to control emotions and stop in time is another useful skill that NLP programming gives.

The use of the technique of "anchoring"

To control your emotional state, you can use a technique called "anchoring." With its help, you can prepare in advance for a difficult and unpleasant conversation, while maintaining a positive state. Also, you will learn to change automatic responses to irritating factors using NLP. This practice is quite simple, but mastering anchoring is better at training or in life, rather than theoretically. In a written statement, what could easily be demonstrated can cause misunderstandings and doubts.

Anchoring is the creation of a connection between a certain event and what is connected with it. The ship is still held by the anchor. Similarly, the psychological anchor causes the corresponding connection - the physical or emotional state of a person changes, or we remember by association some past situation. This rule of NLP works well.

Unconscious anchors, for example, can be "happy" clothing, the smell of your favorite perfume, photos, etc. To create an anchor in a calm and positive state, you can, for example, use a photo of a place where you once were happy. You can also use special words or gestures that you can repeat mentally in a difficult moment. This, for example, the words: "I am calm". It is important that they do not contain denial, as well as double meanings. All these and many other techniques you will work out at the training of NLP. This practice has already helped many people from all over the world.

NLP today

By developing and integrating the most effective technologies and models, NLP has now become widely used in teaching, communication, creativity, art, business, therapy and organizational counseling, that is, where the resources of human behavior and thinking are most effectively utilized. NLP today is above all a methodology that allows to successfully serve various areas of human progress.

NLP has now become widespread in most countries. The best of it is used by many in practice, so there was a need for training. In the US, for example, there are about 100 organizations associated with it, in Germany - about 70 major institutions and centers engaged in research and development on its basis in various fields. This direction of psychology in Russia has come recently and is not yet part of formal education. However, NLP training is carried out as a special course on practical psychology in many institutes and universities. NLP is now available to a greater extent in our country in educational centers, as well as firms that apply it (NLP-consulting).

NLP: books

Of course, one of the most popular books is "From Frogs to Princes" (R. Bendler, D. Grinder). It is recommended to everyone, especially good at the initial stages of the study. Another useful book is "The Mastership of Communication" (A.Lyubimov). All explained is available and understandable: the gate of sorting, adjustment, meta-message and other terms of NLP. This book will be enough to teach the basics of this field. You can also use other works. In the book of Gorin SA. "Have you tried hypnosis?" You will find excellent descriptions of techniques for guiding Ericksonian hypnosis and trance. Very popular today is also the book "NLP for happy love." Its author is Eva Berger.
