"MAZ 500", truck, dumper, timber carrier

The Soviet truck "MAZ 500", a photo of which is presented on the page, was created in 1965 at an automobile plant in Minsk. The new model and its predecessor differ in the location of the engine, which was placed in the lower part of the cabin. This arrangement allowed to reduce the weight of the car and simultaneously increase its capacity by 500 kilograms.

History

The basic model was the onboard "MAZ 500" with a wooden body. The carrying capacity of the car was 7.5 tons, thanks to the 180-horsepower engine, the car could easily tow a trailer weighing 12 tons.

The new family of the "five hundredth" made up a lineup of the following modifications: MAZ 500 dump truck , 505 truck tractor , 509 timber carrier, and 500S universal chassis.

In 1970, a new MAZ 500A car with an extended wheelbase and a lifting capacity increased to 8 tons came off the assembly line. The dimensions of the truck have been optimized in accordance with European standards. The transfer ratio of direct transmission was lowered, the speed of the car increased to 90 kilometers per hour.

"MAZ 500", whose photo allows you to evaluate the new design of the second generation car on its merits, looks modern. A notable difference is the characteristic grille of the radiator, consisting of eight rectangular air intakes.

"MAZ 500A" was produced for seven years, until September 1977, after which it was replaced by a new series - "MAZ 5335".

The diesel engine of YaMZ-236 brand, which was installed on the MAZ 500, could work without electrical equipment. This advantage was used by the military, who ordered the "500th" in large quantities for the needs of the Armed Forces of the USSR. Steering with a hydraulic type amplifier also did not need to be electric. The brake system was supplied with compressed air from the receiver, which, in turn, was filled with a constantly running compressor. No one was embarrassed by the lack of the full drive "MAZ 500", the characteristics of the car and engine power reserve were impressive.

Cabin

"MAZ 500" is equipped with a spacious all-metal cabin on the hinged lift. If necessary, the entire structure rises to an inclination of 45 degrees, with access to the engine and all associated mechanisms. The cabin is equipped with minimal rest facilities.

Control mechanisms "MAZ 500" are located conveniently, the instruments are well read, the steering column is designed for a person of average height and is not regulated. The cabin has good sound insulation. Heating works efficiently enough.
