School self-management - what is its function?

School self-government is quite an old system that exists in every school. It was born in Soviet times. However, the work of the Soviet school self-government was significantly different from the modern one.

What is the difference? In Soviet times, such a phenomenon as the rigid centralization of power was widespread. Teachers, pupils and parents did not have the right to influence the activities of the head of the school. Consequently, the school self-government had a rigid framework, was wholly and entirely subordinate to the director, performed only his orders. The main goal of school self-government was to establish strict discipline among students and to carry out orders from above. Accordingly, the effectiveness of such self-government was zero.

Now the situation has radically changed. Our power has officially become democratic, which means that all students have the right to vote and contribute to the activities of the school institution. Teachers and parents have the right to voice their disagreement with the policy of the school administration and suggest ways of solving the problem. School self-government is a system that not only has the right not to obey the principal of the school, but it can also influence the organization of work in the school. The task of school self-government now is to make the school more interesting and beautiful, to control and develop the activities of students, to organize a well-coordinated system.

School self-government includes various bodies. So, there is a body responsible for the discipline of students and order in the school. His duty is to check the appearance of students, the organization of cleaning the school grounds and other activities. The body responsible for the organization of events, plans various holidays, competitions and embodies what was conceived in life. The sports sector is responsible for sports events. The editorial board is responsible for the design and design of school premises. The press center publishes a school newspaper, collects news and interesting information about what is happening in the school.

Leaders of school government at least once a month convene a council in which the heads of its bodies and class assets take part. The Council coordinates the further activity of the school self-government, sums up the results, identifies the actual problems of the school, and devises ways to solve them.

In addition, such councils discuss the school self-government work plan. Usually such a plan includes initial and final meetings at the end and at the beginning of the year, the organization and conduct of events, the organization of duty and cleaning the territory, checking the appearance of students.

Of course, school self-government, more precisely, the organs entering into it, should have their own, unique names. Thus, the work of the council involves more students, which makes the work of self-management more interesting and more fun, and a school that has such an original system of school self-management is unique and unique!
