Kosher product what is it? Kosher Products: List

Every true Jew must know and follow the laws of kashrut without question. These rules apply to many areas of activity, but primarily they are addressed to food. Food that is considered kosher is primarily useful for the body. It must be natural and meet strict criteria. The production and restaurants that offer kosher products to customers in Russia must have an appropriate certificate.

What is kosher?

Kashrut is translated from Hebrew as "fit." This is a set of rules allowed and forbidden, dealing not only with food, but with other aspects. The laws of kashrut are aimed at inculcating self-discipline and self-restraint, as well as the spiritual cohesion of believers of Jewish origin. They are regulated by the Jewish holy book Torah, which prohibits cruelty, violence, bloodshed. Compliance is closely monitored by the rabbinate.

With the help of the laws of kashrut, food intake rises from the animal to the conscious level. Kosher, what is it? This is primarily a healthy, healthy, ecologically clean food. According to the sacred writings, it positively affects both the physical and spiritual health of a person. There are special lists of allowed food products and their producers. If you want to purchase kosher food or drinks, pay attention to a special sign or ask the seller for a certificate.

The Rabbinate divides into three main groups all kosher products, their list is as follows:

  • Bassar - meat products;
  • Freebies - dairy products;
  • Parve - neutral food (fish, vegetables, etc.).

Products of animal origin - meat, milk, eggs

What is a kosher product of animal origin? This is the meat of animals that are ruminant, artiodactyl, herbivorous at the same time. For example, sheep, cows, goats, moose, etc. It is strictly forbidden to eat meat of a camel, a hare, a daman and a pig. Among the birds non-kosher are predators. They are an owl, a pelican, an eagle, an ostrich, a heron. Cooking can be prepared only from domestic birds - chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, quails, pigeons.

In order for the product to be usable, the animal must be killed according to the special laws of kashrut. Because the Torah is not allowed to consume blood, there are prescriptions for how to handle meat. In addition, the carcass is necessarily checked for the absence of any disease.

In addition to meat, there are other products of animal origin. For example, eggs. They belong to the parve category. Eggs that can be eaten must be taken down only by kosher birds. One end of their shell should be round, and the second - more acute. If suddenly there is a blood clot inside the egg, you can not eat it.

Milk of kosher animals can be eaten. However, there is one limitation. The laws of kashrut are forbidden to take meat and dairy products together. The break between meals should be at least 30 minutes - depends on the community. Milk can be combined with products of other categories - vegetables, fruits, fish, etc.

Fish and seafood

A fish kosher product, what is it? According to kashrut, a non-predatory fish is considered to be allowed, which has fins and easily removable scales. According to these signs, the eel, sturgeon, shark, catfish are not kosher. Salmon caviar can be eaten, and black sturgeon can not be eaten. Various seafood - octopus, crabs, oysters, lobsters, shrimps - do not have scales and fins, therefore they are banned as food.

Although fish is a neutral product category, it should not be confused with meat when cooking or during a meal. Dairy with fish can be eaten at one meal, but always from different dishes.

Insects

The Torah prohibits eating insects, amphibians, reptiles. It is allowed to prepare dishes only from some locust species. You should be careful with vegetables and fruits, because they can contain worms or their larvae. Flour and cereals must be sorted and reseeded so that insects that can get into the bag and spoil kosher foods do not get into the food. The list of unauthorized food does not contain honey produced by an insect (bee). It can be eaten, because, according to the Jews, it is a recycled floral juice. Accordingly, it is a plant product. In addition, honey is extremely useful, which does not contradict the laws of kashrut.

Vegetables and fruits

Vegetables, fruits and herbs are classified as parvee. What does a kosher product of plant origin? Undoubtedly, it must be grown on the territory of Israel. If the product is from another country, but is in its natural form, it can also be eaten. Raw fruits and vegetables do not need a certificate. They can be mixed with meat and milk.

Products of vegetable origin should not be wormy or in contact with non-kosher food. In such cases, they become unsuitable for food.

Beverages

Among the drinks about kosher are those that are made of grapes. The process of producing the right product is extremely complex. It must necessarily comply with certain laws of kashrut. What does a kosher product mean when it comes to wine? The main rule - it should be made only by a Jew. If a person of another nationality and religion touches the drink, he will lose kosher.

Grapes for the right wine should be harvested only in a certain period and in a special place. The vineyard should be more than four years old, and he needs to rest once in seven years. Before you start the production of wine, you should conduct a mandatory rite. All equipment is constantly sterilized at the factory. This should not get strangers. On Saturday, production does not work.

Because of the difficulties that arise in observance of all the laws of kashrut, many winemakers prefer to make a regular drink. For the same reason, a real kosher product (what is - read above) is very expensive, its price is much higher than good Italian or French wines.

Bread

Bread belongs to the parve category. According to the laws of kashrut, a flourish kosher product (what is the allowed food, written above in the article) is one that is baked by an orthodox Jew. The person following the process should separate a small piece of dough from each loaf and burn it. If it is a question of large production, then Jews should at least control the baking of bread and include stoves. Do not forget that all the ingredients used in preparing the dough should be kosher.
