Kambarsk Machine-Building Plant, Udmurtia

Kambarsk Machine-Building Plant (KMZ) is the leader of Russia in the production of narrow-gauge railway equipment. Diesel locomotives, wagons, trolleys, snow-plowing equipment are used in many enterprises, peat and forest exploitation, mineral deposits. KMZ also performs capital repairs and maintenance of locomotives of narrow and wide gauge, delivers spare parts and components to them (axle gearboxes, cardan shafts, gears, shoes, pads, electrical packages).

Historical reference

Kambarsk Machine-Building Plant is one of the oldest enterprises of the Urals. It was founded by the famous family of industrialists - Demidovs. In the XVIII century in the Urals, the mining and metallurgical industry was rapidly developing. The Kama River, the huge forest tracts and the Kambarka River, suitable for the construction of the pond, favored the establishment of a plant here.

In 1760, Demidov was allowed to build a smelting factory on the Kambarka River for iron processing and a saw mill for sawing wood. The productivity of the Kambarsk plant amounted in the 1774-1796 period to about 60,000 poods of iron per year. By 1830, productivity had increased to 100,000 poods (1,600 tons) per year. In the Kambarsk plant there were 3711 people.

At the turn of the ages

After the revolution in 1919, the Kambarsk Machine-Building Plant began to make carts and was named "Kambar State Crew Plant". In 1933, the Kambarskoye Foundry and Mechanical Plant of the People's Commissariat of the USSR was established on the basis of the former iron-producing factory and the school of the FZU.

The enterprise specialized in the production of railway equipment and narrow-gauge rolling stock for the mechanization of the forest industry. It produced trolleys for horse traction, eight-toned platforms with a wooden frame, metal riveting platforms, saws, skins for skidding, alloy chains and other products. In 1936, Kambarka was transformed into a working village, and on July 4, 1945 - into a city of regional subordination. More than 80% of the entire collective of the foundry-mechanical plant went to the front.

Post-war development

After the war, KMZ produced trolleys for horse traction, narrow-gauge cargo 10-ton platforms, sawmills, railway fasteners. In 1950, the plant mastered narrow-track snow-plows, couplings, auto-brake platforms, passenger and commodity-passenger cars, construction machinery and mechanisms, floating dredgers, construction and repair trains.

In 1956 a great event happened - the Kambarsk Machine-Building Plant manufactured the first prototype DM-54. From this moment, the time of the enterprise is counted as a locomotive driver. In 1959, the factory began to develop narrow-gauge locomotives TU2M.

Labor 60th

In 1960, the first experimental diesel locomotive TU4 with a capacity of 250 liters was manufactured. from. With hydrotransmission. This locomotive revolutionized the narrow-gauge transport. During 1961-1972 more than 3210 diesel locomotives were produced. Despite its considerable age, the locomotive TU4 still belongs to the most common type, taking advantage among transport workers for great popularity.

In 1964, the production of locomotives TU5 with a capacity of 300 liters was started. from. With hydrotransmission. Three years later (in the year of the 200th anniversary), KMZ for the first time came out with the supply of equipment for export, and the first shipment of TU5E locomotives was realized by the Vietnamese fighting against the American occupation.

To replace the obsolete DM-54, TMU-61 and MD54-4 locomotives in 1964, the production of diesel locomotives TU6A was mastered, and from 1982 its advanced version - TU8 with a capacity of 180 liters was produced. from. With mechanical transmission. The total number of locomotives broke all records - 4555 pieces.

With the sign of quality

In 1970 the diesel locomotive TU7 was created, and in 1985 TU7A in the modifications of 20 and 24 tons for the gauge of 750, 1000 and 1067 mm. Export variations of TU7E were supplied and are currently operating in Vietnam, Cuba, Bulgaria, Mali, Czech Republic, Guinea. Machines of this type are manufactured to date more than 3300 units.

In 1980, the team of KMZ for the first time designed and manufactured a prototype of a wide-range diesel locomotive TGM40. To date, about 1000 units have been manufactured. On the basis of this model, a snow thrower TGM40S was created. By the way, in 1983 the locomotive TGM40 at the International Leipzig Fair received the Gold Medal. This is the only gold medal of the Leipzig fair in the domestic diesel locomotive building.

In 1993, according to a special order, four diesel locomotives TU9 HPP were built for shunting operations in underground workings at the construction of Irganayskaya HPP in Dagestan. In 1995, for the Ministry of Railways, a motor vehicle AM3 was created, on its basis for the first time in the country for the Ministry of Railways a flaw detector was created. In 1997, again for the first time, the composition for the export of weeds was made.

Today's Day

Kambarsk Machine-Building Plant remains the leader in the production of narrow-gauge transport by 750 mm and 1067 mm. Being a unique enterprise in the range of products, KMZ has a modern machine tool park and equipment, highly qualified personnel.

KMZ is a joint-stock company. General Director Alexander Biryukov owns a controlling stake. Accordingly, it is interested in the development of the enterprise. Plant workers are able to perform serial and individual orders for the construction:

  • Locomotives;
  • Wagons;
  • Special equipment;
  • Track machines for narrow gauge.

Also KMZ has a production base for assembling industrial diesel locomotives with a broad gauge of 400 hp. And diagnostic defectoscopic complexes for the subway. The pride of the plant are the handsome lovers of diesel locomotives TU10, used in suburban communication on narrow-gauge sections and Children's railways.

The enterprise is a town-forming and is located at the confluence of the Kambarka River in Kama. The address of the factory: 427950, Udmurtia, Kambarka, Sovetskaya street, 23.
