How to get there?

A bit of history

Its modern name, he received in the middle of the 9th century, during the reign of the Amalfi family. It was the heyday of the city. The most successful center of maritime trade on the Tyrrhenian Sea was constantly growing and developing: magnificent temples were built there, beautiful buildings and beauty were built, and luxurious gardens were planted on their roofs.

It was in this glorious city that the "Amalfi Law of the Sea" was created, a document that regulated the rules of trade at sea. He operated throughout Italy until 1570. After a while the reign of the city was assumed by the Duke of Salerno, in honor of the dynasty of which the local gulf was named. However, then the importance of Amalfi as the largest sea port in the region began to weaken.

After in 1100 it was plundered by the Normans, in 1135 - the Pisans, the prosperity of the city was shaken. Indigenous people, numbering more than 50,000 people, began to actively leave Amalfi in search of a better share. The rest earned their living by producing liquor, expensive paper, pasta and fishing. In 1343, at sea in the vicinity of the city there was a monstrous storm, which destroyed half of the buildings together with the inhabitants. After the disaster, Amalfi began to rebuild, and by the 19th century the embankment of the city had been completely restored, once again building luxurious buildings on it, which then turned into comfortable hotels. In 1852 in Amalfi appeared an unusually beautiful road of 15 kilometers long, stretching across the city and called by many travelers the most romantic in the world.
