Ignorant is what? The meaning and types of ignorance

Prestigiousness of education in the modern world is questionable, although it allows one to answer the question: "ignorant" is what a concept is? By the way, a funny fact: according to statistics, Russia is the most educated country, given the percentage of people with higher education. Interesting, huh? And now to business.

Value

"" Ignorant "is a man of little culture, uneducated," says the dictionary. For example, a person who still believes that the earth is flat, without any doubt, can claim this unpleasant characteristic. Ignorance is, of course, bad. But there are people (and quite a lot) who are even proud of it. They do not know, but it does not stop them at all.

Suppose this is so. And suddenly these same people will have children, how will they teach their offspring to dream about more? It's bad when a person is scientifically, philosophically or psychologically insignificant, but even worse, when he does not want to learn. The darkness propagated by him can harm his family and friends, and her children will overcome and understand that this type of behavior is the only possible one. If the "ignorant" is a position, then there is little that can be done to convince a person.

Ignoramus and ignoramus

There are different types of ignorance, but at the same time, whatever one may say, the adjective is one.

There is a person who does not know how to behave at a table in a decent company, he will be called ignoramus. Sometimes it happens because of the mismatch of acceptable forms of behavior in different societies. The tribes of Africa adopted the same manners, the Europeans - others. It is no accident that people, getting into someone else's social community, experience a cultural shock. But there are hands in almost any European country - this is a sign of bad taste. Therefore, if you see a person who neglects cutlery, do not doubt, this is the ignoramus. . You could say an ignorant person .

Another type of ignorance is ignorance. And here one classic example arises. Remember the episode of the novel MA. Bulgakov, when Ivan Bezdomny tells the Master about a meeting with the professor at the Patriarchs, and the Master, after listening to and enlightening Ivan, asks, knowing in advance the answer: "I'm not mistaken, are you ignorant?" And here this characteristic is somewhat different. It can not be said that the Master had time to evaluate the poet's mannerisms. But he definitely understood one thing: with a demonology Ivan is unfamiliar and even "Faust" did not read, that is, he lacks knowledge in a certain field. Such is the ignoramus, the literary worker is ignorant. It's sad, but, as the reader remembers, the poet will completely change.

Sherlock Holmes, or No Limit to Perfection

Strange thing, but each of us can say how Socrates: "I only know that I do not know anything." Many great minds interpreted these words. But it seems that the usual unknowability of the world is encrypted in them. The wider the area of knowledge of a person, the greater the area of his ignorance, and nothing can be done about it. Each of us is both an expert and a profane in one person.

Remember the wonderful episode of the Soviet film "Acquaintance": the first series of the film about Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. There is a scene where a famous detective confesses in his total ignorance about literary, philosophical knowledge, he does not even know who Copernicus is and what the Earth revolves around the Sun, but he is well versed in chemistry and can distinguish different types of mud from different streets of London .

Nobody dares to call a detective a fool, yes, he missed much of the general knowledge, but in his field he is a genius! His concept can be called "controlled or reasonable ignorance." The detective does not do anything special, he just knows exactly what he needs and what does not. And to the laurels of the scholar he is indifferent. In fact, the Holmes case is not unique, for it is the fate of every narrow specialist.
