How is the psycho-organic syndrome manifested?

The psycho-organic syndrome is a psychopathological symptom complex that occurs as a result of organic brain damage, and is expressed in the violation of intelligence and memory, affective disorders. Very often the disease is accompanied by asthenia.

The psychoorganic syndrome after a stroke, asphyxia of an acute (strangulation), a craniocerebral trauma is difficult. Usually the disease develops gradually, acquiring a chronic form.

In case of complications, psychopathic disorders are observed, which are accompanied by acute manifestations of characterological traits. As a result of the progression of the syndrome, the character features can be completely erased.

The mild symptoms of the syndrome are referred to as organic lowering of the personality level. They are manifested in a slight deterioration in criticism and memory, irritable weakness, exhaustion, narrowing of interests.

Severe manifestations are called organic dementia or dementia. This includes strong defeats of the intellect, the collapse of memory, the degradation of the individual.
