How and what to wash out the car heater radiator?

A faulty system of heating the car in winter can cause some inconvenience, especially if the outside temperature is below zero. And the point here is not only in the cold, but also in the violation of the review due to the frozen glass. To avoid such troubles, the heating system must be systematically checked, including in the warm season.

One of the most common causes of disruption of the heater's normal operation is the obstruction of its channels. The reasons for this malfunction, as well as how to rinse the radiator of the stove and what, we'll talk about in this article.

Symptoms of a malfunction

Cold air from the deflectors at the operating temperature of the coolant and the heating on indicates that the heating system is in emergency mode. Determine the cause of the problem is not difficult. There can only be two options: either the heater's faucet has broken down, or its radiator hammered. In both cases, the symptoms are the same. The inlet pipe of the radiator will be hot, leaving - cold. But how exactly to identify the problem?

And here nothing difficult. If the drive cable of the crane is full, and the tap itself works normally and does not leak, then the problem is in the radiator. You can, of course, contact the service station and replace it. This option is much easier than rinse the car heater radiator yourself, however more expensive. But why throw away the money in vain, if the situation can be corrected without buying a new spare part.

Causes of malfunction

The causes of the impassability of the heater radiator can be:

  • Long service life, as a result of which an original scale is deposited on tubes (aluminum or copper);
  • Use of a poor-quality coolant or water with a large number of salts in the composition;
  • Inadequate technical specifications of the composition of the metal from which the radiator is made;
  • Entry into the cooling system of chemically active substances (oil, fuel) or various debris (mud).

A simple way out of the situation

If the stove of your car is clogged, you can remedy the situation by washing it. You can do this in two ways: dismantling the radiator and not removing it from the car. The first option, of course, is preferable, as it is more convenient, however, in some cars, especially domestic production, dismantling takes too much time.

In this case, you can flush the radiator of the stove without removing it. It is enough just to disconnect it from the cooling system. We will consider both options.

Washing agents popular in the people

Now it remains to solve the main question: "Than to wash out the radiator of the car's stove ?" There are many variants here. Someone uses special fluids to clean the cooling system, which are abundantly present in all auto parts stores, and whoever uses old folk remedies that are as effective as the purchased ones. Consider the popular means used to clean the inside surface of the radiator of the heater.

  1. Special fluids for flushing the cooling system.
  2. Means for cleaning sewerage communications ("Tiret", "Comet", "Mole", etc.).
  3. Aqueous solution of citric acid.
  4. Aqueous solution of caustic soda.
  5. Milk serum.
  6. "Coca Cola".

Asking about the best way to rinse the radiator of the stove, and choosing the necessary means for this, it is advisable to give preference to special fluids. Their composition is able to clean the channels of the heater as much as possible without exposing them to harmful chemical effects. Kitchen appliances such as "Mole" and "Comet" quite effectively can compete with them, but no one will guarantee that they will not harm.

For many decades, homegrown car repairers use lemon acid, caustic soda and milk whey to wash the elements of the cooling system, praising their action. And in recent years, the usual "Coca-Cola" has become very popular, capable of dissolving even the most durable deposits.

Material of radiator

Whatever it was, the choice will always remain yours, but remember that before you wash the radiator of the stove, you need to know exactly what material it is made of. The bottom line is that in an aluminum heater, in any case, it is impossible to pour alkaline soda solution. Only acid is needed here. Otherwise, aluminum will oxidize, and the situation will get even worse. Approximately the same will happen if you pour acid into the copper radiator. For copper, the use of alkali is much preferable.

As for the kitchen tools and Coca-Cola, their effect on the metal can be different. The most gentle cleanser for both copper and aluminum is whey. Therefore, it is best to use it from available tools.

Clean the heater without dismantling

How to flush the radiator of the stove without removing it from the car? It would seem that this process is quite complex and time consuming, but in reality everything is not so difficult. To start, the car needs to be installed on a pit or trestle, and drain all the coolant from the system. Before doing this, it is advisable to warm the engine to operating temperature. So the coolant will drain faster. After that, it is necessary to detach the hoses from the incoming and outgoing radiator connections, by loosening the clamp with a screwdriver.

Now we need two hoses that need to be connected in the same way to the nozzles. Before rinsing the car heater radiator with a previously prepared or purchased product, it is advisable to rinse it with plain water. This solution will allow you to get rid of soft dirt that has not yet had time to settle on the walls.

Rinse, of course, need running water. To do this, connect one hose to the radiator inlet pipe, to the output one - the other. Apply water to the first one. Rinse the heater for at least 5-7 minutes.

Only after this you can proceed to pour in the cleaning agent. Preliminarily blocking the outlet pipe, pour the solution into the radiator until it is full. Now give the heater some time so that the dirt can be sour. After a few hours, the liquid must be drained and the stove again rinsed with running water.

How to flush the radiator of the heater, removing it from the car

This method of cleaning is much more effective than the previous one. In addition, it is much easier to clean the dismantled stove from the scum than to rinse the radiator of the car's stove without dismantling. And that's why. First, there is no need to connect the water supply. It is enough to place the radiator under the falling stream of water in the bathroom. Secondly, you do not need any hoses, leks or other attachments. And thirdly, the bay in the heater means for cleaning and withstood it for a while, the radiator can be shaken, thereby contributing to the separation of scale from the internal walls of the channels. And one more plus - the removed radiator can be cleaned and outside. In its lamellas, dirt and dust are not less than inside the deposits. In all other respects, the cleaning process is similar to the previous one.

Helpful Tips

Finally we give some useful tips that will allow the heater of your car to work as long as possible:

  1. When deciding how and how to clean the stove radiator, refer to the car user's manual and specify what the manufacturer's experts think about this.
  2. Do not fill in the system with cheap cooling fluids. They contribute to the rapid formation of scale. Do not also use water as a coolant, especially uncleaned water.
  3. Do not mix antifreeze antifreeze in the system. They enter into a chemical reaction, which leads to the formation of a specific precipitate and the loss of useful abilities.
  4. Change the coolant at least after 20 thousand km of run, and do not forget to flush the system before replacing.
  5. Periodically replace the hoses, through which coolant is supplied and removed from the radiator of the heater.
