Grusha Elena: description of the grade, characteristics, photo

In our country it is difficult to find such a garden plot on which pears would not grow. Of course, in addition to the northern regions. And more recently, these heat-loving trees delighted with their fragrant and juicy fruits only gardeners in the southern regions of our country. Thanks to the painstaking work of domestic breeders, new frost-resistant varieties were bred.

This allowed to expand the possibility of growing these magnificent fruits to moderate latitudes. In this article we will introduce you some pears (grades with photo and description). Many of them have been known for a long time, but even today gardeners give them preference. One of them became a pear of the Russian beauty, bred by the breeder of the IV Michurin Institute, SF Chernenko. To some gardeners this variety is known under its second name - Beauty Chernenko.

Variety description

This species was obtained during the crossing of two varieties: Bere Ardanton and Daughter Blankova. The variety is regionalized and well established in the gardening of the Central regions of Russia. Pear The Russian beauty is a tall, fruit tree, which many gardeners attribute to its shortcomings, as this makes it difficult to care for it.

The tree has a rather narrow for a given plant species narrow pyramidal crown. The shoots are slightly curved, of medium thickness, with slight crankiness. They are painted reddish-brown, shiny, not fluffy. The buds are large and have the shape of a cone. Leaves are elongated, large, pointed, dark green with a wedge-shaped base. The plate is slightly folded, curved, small-sawed, uneven at the edges. Petiolus of medium thickness and length, without pubescence.

The fruits are very large. On average, their weight is 180 grams. They have an elongated shape, several tuberous, have a medium-thick skin, covered with a weak waxy coating. At the stage of removable maturity they are painted in greenish color with a slight covering blush. A greenish-yellow color with a reddish-brown blush appears during the period of consumer maturity. The flesh of the fruit is white, slightly matte, extremely juicy, having a semi-oily consistency. The taste is sour-sweet, with a delicate aroma.

Grusha Elena: description of the variety

Another early-winter variety, which became very popular in Central Russia. This is not a novelty of breeding, but a favorite variety of excellent and yielding variety, derived a few decades ago.

The pear bloom begins in mid-May and lasts no more than two weeks. Fruits ripen at the end of September. Harvest is necessary for ten days after ripening, otherwise pears will fall to the ground. Without loss of flavor and commercial qualities in a cool pear room, Elena is kept for up to four months.

History of the variety

Grusha Elena has one more name - Geghin. This variety is cultivated in the central black-earth southern regions of our country. It was received in Armenia in 1960 by a well-known breeder PG Karatyan during the crossing of the Birch of Winter Michurin and the Forest Beauty.

Features

Pear variety Elena is a low-growth tree with a pyramidal crown, which has an average degree of foliage density. The first fruits appear in the seventh year after planting. Pear blooms and fruit picking occur every year, even in the most difficult weather conditions.

On average, the yield of an adult tree is more than forty kilograms. The fruits are large (up to 200 g), round-pear-shaped. They keep on a slightly curved short and thick peduncle. By the time of maturation, they are painted in a greenish-yellow color with a slight blush.

Pear Elena has a creamy juicy pulp with a dense consistency. It has a pleasant sweet taste and a delicate aroma.

Today, very late pears are very popular. Grades with photos are often shown by gardeners at various amateur shows, which promotes the popularization of famous varieties, familiarity with novelties of selection.

Pear Elena has high consumer qualities of fruits. They are suitable for use in both fresh and canned form. Another advantage of the variety can be considered resistance to many fungal diseases. This variety does not affect the scab and septoriosis.

Planting and care

Young plants of pears can be planted in spring and autumn. Experienced gardeners consider the most optimal time for planting the end of April and the first half of October. Pear Elena prefers loamy soils. They allow you to get the best (in terms of quantity and quality) harvest. Clay, as well as sand, soils before planting need to be improved.

To increase the conductivity of air in heavy ground, it adds large river sand, peat, compost. For planting a seedling, dig a pit not less than seventy centimeters deep and about a meter in diameter. On the bottom you can lay a shell of walnuts.

Particular attention should be paid to planting the pear in a site on which groundwater is closely located. That the root system of a plant did not suffer, it is necessary to dig out grooves for removal of excessive moisture. On wet pear land, Elena will feel comfortable if she is planted not by a hill already existing or created artificially.

Care: trimming

Pear Helen needs pruning. Such work is carried out in the early spring, preferably in March. It is necessary to remove dry and dead parts of a tree and branches with old flower buds. Another feature of this variety can be considered the property of young branches to give a full yield. In addition, pruning is necessary to form the crown of a tree.

Spraying

In the spring, preventive treatment of the plant against diseases and pests is carried out. It should be done in April-May, when the buds are blossoming, and then - after the appearance of the buds. The third time spraying is carried out in three weeks. During the summer, all medical activities are conducted only if there is a disease. Beginners should know that spraying of trees with chemical compounds should be stopped a month before the expected harvest.

Top dressing

Seedling pears begin to feed for a second year after planting. In mid-May nitrogen fertilizers are introduced into the soil - nitrate or urea. At the same time, you can feed the plant with microelements. During this period of time, siderates are planted around the tree (plants that can improve the soil structure and enrich it with nitrogen). These include:

  • Phacelia;
  • mustard;
  • clover;
  • lupine.

The most important top dressing is carried out in autumn. Under the crown of the pear organic fertilizers (ash, compost, lime, humus, etc.) are introduced.

Watering

Pear Elena is demanding to moisture. In summer, in strong heat, the soil should not be allowed to dry out, it is necessary to water it abundantly and regularly. Prior to the onset of the first frost, in autumn, the so-called moisture charge of trees is carried out. To do this, the trunks are watered abundantly so that the water soaks the soil to a depth of at least 80 cm. This will allow the tree to carry over to freezing - the moist land will not freeze too deep, the soil will breathe, and the root system will receive water throughout the winter.

Diseases and pests

Despite the fact that this variety is not affected by scab and septoria, it is resistant to fungal diseases, it is threatened by other infections characteristic of these trees (fruit rot, black cancer, powdery mildew, rust). With insufficient preventive measures, they are capable of inflicting serious damage to trees and fruits, and sometimes irreparable harm.

The main methods of controlling pests and diseases include regular spraying, burning of diseased leaves, removal of diseased parts of wood and fruits.

Grusha Elena: reviews of gardeners

According to people who grow this variety on their sites, it is ideal for Central Russia. This variety has many advantages, among which gardeners especially distinguish excellent taste qualities, high yield, long-term fruit storage and the possibility of their transportation over long distances. At the same time, many people say that caring for a tree is not complicated, and if it follows simple rules of agricultural technology, it yields excellent harvests.
