Grades of lining and their differences

Lining has long been one of the favorite finishing materials. Thanks to it, cozy, warm and original interiors are created.

What is the lining

Lining is a long planed board. It has a groove and a comb for mounting. The material is environmentally friendly, because it is made of wood. The characteristics are close to the characteristics of the tree: durability, ease of installation, high-quality noise insulation.

Used lining for the interior and exterior walls, ceiling. In addition, it can be used to build a terrace, a gazebo, a bath. Thanks to good sound absorption, even walls in cinemas cover it.

Currently, there are several types of lining:

  • Ordinary (also called "lining") - has on its surface special grooves, which are necessary for ventilation.
  • American - like a beam of wood. This type is fixed only in the horizontal direction. Used usually for exterior decoration of buildings.
  • Block House - imitates a round bar.

What is made of lining

Traditional material for the manufacture of lining is wood. Various breeds are used, both coniferous and deciduous.

Among conifers the most common is pine. Spruce is also used, but much less often. This is due to the fact that the spruce has a loose structure.

All sorts of lining from pine are suitable for indoor use and facing of external walls. But in some rooms (for example, a steam room in a bath), such a material is not recommended. But spruce lining is resistant to moisture and the appearance of mold, so it can be used in places where it is possible to get moisture (baths, balconies, outdoor terraces).

Alpine, ash, maple, aspen, linden are used from deciduous. A little bit less a nut and an oak. Sheathing of aspen, as well as premium wood species, can be purchased online at vagonkavsem.ru. The goods are delivered in the Russian Federation in shrink film. Larch is made of elite species. Wood linden and alder never heats up and does not burn the skin, regardless of the air temperature. Therefore, they are often used for wall cladding in steam baths and the construction of shelves there.

Recently, also produced lining made of other materials (for example, plastic). Such building material is conditionally called "lining" due to the presence of the "groove-comb" attachment system.

Grades of lining

The lining is made in accordance with the standards defined by GOST and TU (technical conditions). If GOST is common for all enterprises, then the TU is developed by each manufacturer independently. That is why it is difficult to separate the lining into separate types. Each manufacturer, they can be their own.

The quality of the selected raw material depends on the quality of the finished material. Therefore, for the basis of dividing the lining into varieties, such characteristics as the presence of knots and resinous pockets, the blue of the raw material, the existing cracks, etc., are chosen. Depending on this, the following types of lining (or classes) are distinguished:

  • A variety of "extra" (also called "higher" or "premium").
  • First grade (class A).
  • The second grade (class B).
  • The third grade (class C).

Products of different varieties are manufactured using the same technology. Their division occurs after the sorting, since the sorts of lining differ only in the presence of external defects.

Extra grade

This lining (grade "extra") is distinguished by the complete absence of any defects. There are no knots, no cracks, no chips. Most often, this variety is made by splicing. This is due to the fact that it is very difficult to make ideal boards from a single piece of wood. Their number is very small. This variety is considered elite, it is used for finishing the interiors of rich country houses.

Accordingly, the highest price is just such a lining - the highest grade. For its safety, manufacturers often pack it in a vacuum. In this way they reduce the likelihood of damage to the product (chips, deformations) during transportation and storage. The kit usually includes special fasteners for installation. The premium lining does not need a fit, it will be perfectly fixed. During installation, you must be careful not to damage the surface of the material, which is covered with protective varnish. The lacquer coating further emphasizes the beauty of the wood.

When buying, you need to be careful. To avoid deception, inspect visually the material. Do not trust only the labels on the label. There are cases when on top of the package there are ideal dosochki, and from below - of lower quality. Sellers who are confident in the quality of the material will not obstruct the inspection.

First grade

With the lining of the extra class, the class A is comparable in its characteristics to the lining. 1 variety from some manufacturers is often better than the highest for others. This is due to the discrepancies in the requirements of the technical conditions during production. Therefore, in such situations, you need to focus on the appearance of the material.

Distinctions of the first grade of lining - in the absence of falling knots and through cracks. Small and necessarily blind cracks occupy an insignificant part of the boards. Characteristic are also the absence of blue, rot and black dots.

Knots that are available on the material must necessarily be light, healthy and not drop-off. Their size does not exceed 1.5 centimeters in diameter. Dropping knots should be healthy, fused and a diameter of not more than 0.5 cm.

Cracks are allowed up to 9.5 cm long. They are not necessarily through, not plastewith, and go to the butt of the board.

Defects of a product of this class do not need to be hidden. It is enough to treat the surface with a decorative varnish (oil, wax), which will emphasize the natural lines of wood.

Larch lining (grade 1, as well as the highest one), perfectly suited for interior decoration of living quarters.

The second grade

Such a lining (grade 2) is characterized by the presence of visible defects. There are dents, cracks, chips. But their size does not exceed 5 cm per 1 meter of running board. The surface of the product is blue (up to 10% of the volume), knots, resins, cores. At the ends, a non-slip is permissible, which does not interfere with the installation.

Knots do not exceed two centimeters in diameter, their number is up to one per meter of material. If the knots are black, then their diameter should not exceed 1.5 cm. Rotten and dropping knots are not allowed.

Adhesive cracks that extend into the butt are allowed, with a length not exceeding a third of the entire length of the board. Through cracks - no more than 30 cm along the length. The length of the plastic through cracks is no more than 15 cm and the width is up to 1 mm.

Places with a blue, color, hush are allowed one by one on the board, if their size does not exceed 10x20 cm.

Most of the defects are formed in the production process. The existing cracks should not be through or go to the end of the board. Possible rot up to 10% and wormhole (up to 3 per one running meter). For this class, any defects are allowed that do not interfere with the installation of the material.

The existing shortcomings are usually hidden with the help of trowelling and coloring in dark tones.

This class of lining is a budget option, suitable for most of the population.

Third grade

For certain roughing works and finishing of ancillary rooms, a lining is also used. 3 grade is the most suitable option. Low quality products explain the minimum cost.

During installation, this class of lining must be adjusted and painted to hide serious surface defects. It can be dropping knots, through cracks, core, remains of the bark, chips. Defects of the material occupy most of the surface.

Price differences of lining varieties

Differences in the quality of the material and the presence of defects leads to a difference in the price of the lining. Equal-looking dosches may differ in value. It can be connected with the way the material was dried. Drying in the usual manner, the board has natural moisture, it is heavier, but almost half cheaper. The material that has been dried in the chamber (it is easier) is valued more.

So, a pine lining of class A, dried in a cell, costs about 200-450 rubles per 1m 2 , and dried natural way - 130-300 rubles. Dry material from pine varieties B and C will cost 180-350 and 140-250 rubles per 1 m 2, respectively.

The price for lining larch is approximately the following (per square meter):

  • The highest grade is 1200 rubles and higher.
  • The first grade is 550-900 rubles.
  • The second grade is 400-750 rubles.
  • The third grade is 330-600 rubles.

Lining, regardless of the variety, is a beautiful and environmentally friendly material that is easy to use in work. But choosing the necessary material in the store, you should be careful. It is better to spend a little time checking the purchased products, whether they meet the declared grade. Otherwise, you can make a mistake. This will affect the aesthetic features of the room, which will not look exactly as planned.
