Gonorrhea, symptoms in men and women. Diagnosis and treatment.

Gonorrhea is a venereal disease, caused by a bacterium (gonococcus), affecting the genitourinary system. Most often occurs infection of the mucous membrane of the urethra, urethra or rectum.

Gonorrhea, symptoms in men

The first of them begin to appear already a week after infection. Only after visiting a doctor, you can accurately establish the diagnosis - gonorrhea. Symptoms in men are slightly different from women, because they are primarily affected by the urethra. This process is accompanied by pain during urination, as well as purulent discharge, which have a brownish-yellow color. If you do not start timely treatment, you may experience swelling or sores at the end of the urethra.

It can also be oral infection, in which the oral cavity and the larynx are affected. If men have symptoms clearly, it should be noted that in women, the disease can be asymptomatic. Initially, the uterus is affected, then the infection spreads to the fallopian tubes. After that, accumulated pus causes constant pain in the lower abdomen. This can cause a malfunction of the menstrual cycle, as the microparticles of pus can enter the blood.

Diagnostics

If you notice any signs that are similar to the manifestation of gonorrhea, you should contact the clinic. After that, you should undergo a comprehensive examination of the genitourinary system and take other tests. In addition, be prepared for the fact that you can take samples from the mucosa of the pharynx and eyelids, as well as from the rectum. This is necessary to detect the presence of bacteria in the body in order to further determine effective methods of treatment. On the basis of blood and urine tests, a doctor can diagnose gonorrhea, the symptoms in men at which are much more pronounced than in women. In addition, gonorrhea can develop against a background of diseases such as trichomoniasis or chlamydia. Therefore, smears to identify these diseases are mandatory.

Chronic gonorrhea in men

This form of disease can occur only in the absence of treatment. In turn, this in almost all cases leads to infertility in men. With chronic gonorrhea, there is a small amount of pus from the genital organs in the morning. Ignoring the disease can also lead to damage to the cornea of the eyes and joints. The chronic form of this disease (as, indeed, acute gonorrhea) is considered quite dangerous. Because it can lead to serious consequences.

The risk of infection with gonorrhea

If statistics are taken into account, 50% of men and 80% of women can contract infection with this unprotected sexual intercourse. Proceeding from this, it can be said that virtually every sexual act with an infected person can cause a disease.

If you have found a gonorrhea, you should not self-medicate, which can only worsen the condition. It is necessary to follow all the recommendations of the doctor, and also to refuse from sexual contacts. Be sure to notify partners that they also undergo a complete examination for the presence of gonorrhea and begin treatment at an early stage.

Treatment

The most basic method is the administration of antibiotics, which the doctor appoints individually. Effective drugs for the treatment of this disease are ofloxacin, cefixime, and also fiprofloxacin. If the development of gonorrhea is accompanied by chlamydia, then the best drug will be azithromycin or dioxycycline. The course of treatment is prescribed only by a doctor.

Remember that gonorrhea, the symptoms of which appear in men some time after infection, has very serious consequences that can lead to infertility. Therefore, timely treatment of this disease is simply necessary!
