Nut saved - it's time to harvest nuts

This holiday, called the Nut Spas, by Orthodox believers is celebrated on August 29. Tradition reports that the Savior of the World, Jesus Christ, wiped his face with a towel, thus leaving his Divine face on it. The iconic icons dedicated to the image of the Savior (Savior) are noteworthy, they have been used in Russia for a long time with special veneration. This tradition tells of the grievous ills of the ruler of Edessa, named Avgar, who received miraculous healing and salvation.

Edessa is a city of antiquity that is considered an important center of early Christianity in ancient Syria. Today it is Shanlıurfa - Turkey. Before the lepers suffering from leprosy came the rumor about the miracles of healing that Jesus Christ performed. He wrote a letter and sent his man named Ananias with him to the Savior. The letter contained a request for healing from a serious illness. Then Christ washed his face, and after wiping himself with a towel, he handed the canvas with his face to the messenger of Avgar. Jesus also promised to send his disciple to the ruler of Edessa.

After the Lord was crucified, buried and resurrected on the third day, the Apostle Thomas sent one of the disciples of Christ to Syria. The name of this messenger was Thaddeus. When he came to Avgar, this man preached the gospel of Jesus Christ to him and all the inhabitants of the city, together with the ruler, believed in the Lord and were baptized. Also for Avgar, a miracle of healing was revealed with the help of the previously mentioned Not Made by Hands of Christ the Savior. Having healed from leprosy and having believed, the ruler of Edessa established a canvas with the image of Jesus above the gates of the city.

Later he was abducted by Muslims, but then, nine centuries later, the image was bought by Michael - the emperor of Byzantium, and in 944 he was transferred to Constantinople. This day is considered the beginning of the celebration of the described event - the Transference of the Image of Christ. The events of the ancient tradition are based on a document that contained the Edessa archive. There he was discovered in the 5th century by Eusebius of Caesarea. The fact that the rumors about miracles, which Jesus created, spread across Syria, is also spoken in the Gospel of Matthew.

The Nut Savior is a day in which the cycle of religious holidays ends: The First Savior - Honey, the believers celebrate on August 14. The second - apple - on August 19. In ancient times, the last holiday from this cycle was also called "Bread Savior". On the eve of the Most Holy Theotokos, the end of the harvest is associated with the end of the most enjoyable and lightest of the Uspensky fast in Rus . Love him for the abundance of fruit in this period.

Walnut Savior is called so because of the ripening by this time of hazelnuts and the beginning of their collection. On a certain day, rugs were spread in the woods. Then the nuts were collected by domestic people, maid girls, women. It is believed that the more nuts are collected, the more abundant the harvest of bread (rye) will be. Residents of cities celebrated this holiday with people's "gracious" festivities, held fairs. And in our time the Third Savior is marked by the baking of pies, loaves, for which the flour of a new crop is used.

Earlier in the Walnut Spas, peasants sowed winter rye, the so-called "dope". The ritual began with a general family prayer, and then accompanied by their wives, their husbands went to the field. On the cart traditionally it was necessary to lay sheaves, on top of which they put bags with sowing rye. In the field of sowing, buckwheat porridge was already waiting for them, with which they were met by domestic ones. After the crop ended, the whole family ate porridge with pies. This day also prepare a variety of dishes with nuts, which are recommended to treat their relatives and friends. For example, you can prepare a simple salad, which immediately includes and nuts, and apples and honey:

• Two apples, peeled off, are rubbed on the grater.
• The resulting apple substance is mixed with three tablespoons of honey.
• Add crushed nuts, in the amount of three tablespoons.
• One carrot should also be grated and added to a salad.

It remains only to pour all the juice of the lemon, mix well and top with sprinkled nuts. Salad ready.
