General rules for cycling

For cyclists, special rules of conduct on the roads have been developed . It should be noted that they are also subject to certain points and common traffic rules for motorists. Let's consider the rules of safe riding on a bicycle.

Terminology

The rules of a cyclist (or cycling) include general provisions. They set out the main terms used in the manual. So, a bicycle (velomobile) is a vehicle that is driven by the action of the muscular strength of the person on it. Not included in this category is a wheelchair. A bike path is an element of a road that is allocated constructively or lines. It is designed to move drivers of the above transport. The markup element is indicated by a special sign. A pedestrian is a citizen who is not in a vehicle, but participates in traffic on the road. As it is also a physical person, moving on a wheelchair, roller skates, other sports equipment. A person who leads a motorcycle, a moped, a bicycle, a scooter, a stroller or a sled is also considered a pedestrian. He does not perform repairs and other works in the established order on the carriageway. The zone for such citizens is the territory, the departure and entry into which is indicated by the corresponding signs. The pavement is a road element that adjoins the roadway or is separated from it by a lawn. It is intended for the movement of pedestrians and cyclists in accordance with the rules set out below.

Duties and rights of a pedestrian

In the dark, or when unsatisfactory visibility when driving along the edge of the road or along the roadside, a person who drives a motorcycle, moped, scooter or bicycle should be indicated by headlights. The movement must be carried out in the course of transport.

Maneuvering

After parking or stopping, the driver of the car starting the traffic must give way to the moving transport. An exception to this provision is the case provided for in § 125 of the SDA. When carrying out the congress, the driver should give way to the horsemen, pedestrians and cyclists, the path of which he crosses.

Motorway

This element is denoted by the corresponding sign. On the motorway, it is prohibited to move horse-drawn vehicles, pedestrians, riders, wheeled tractors, self-propelled machines, cattle drivers, transport, unable to develop a speed greater than 40 km / h for technical reasons. It is also forbidden to ride a bicycle. The rules of the road do not allow mopeds and motorcycles to move along the motorway.

Important points

In the process of leaving the pedestrian and residential areas, as well as the adjacent territory, car owners are obliged to give way to transport moving along it, as well as pedestrians, cyclists, riders, whose path they cross. Push cars on the roadway is prohibited. The only exception is the case of putting them to the sidelines.

Rules for riding bicycles and scooters

For the specified transport there are several different positions. How is cycling practiced? The rules of the road allow movement on the given transport in the established areas. They include the roadside, sidewalk, pedestrian zone. It should be said that cycling along these sections is allowed in the absence of a specially marked bicycle path. In the absence of all these elements, you can move along the carriageway in 1 row not more than a meter from the right edge. The movement on the scooter is allowed on the roadside or with the road common to the cars. At the same time, the moped driver should be no more than a meter from the right edge of the carriageway. Safety rules when riding a bicycle and a moped allow for an increase in distance of more than 1 m when turning, turning (in permitted cases) or by avoiding an obstacle.

special instructions

The manual contains an explanatory reminder. The rules for cycling prescribe the following:

  1. To make an exit beyond the meter from the edge only to avoid obstacles, turn left and turn in permissible cases.
  2. Columns of cyclists in the course of traffic along the roadway should be divided into groups. In each of them not more than ten people. Moving groups is carried out at a distance of not less than one hundred meters from each other.
  3. If there is a road marking line (horizontal) on the roadway, then it should be located to the left of the cyclists.
  4. In the unlit time of day or at unsatisfactory visibility the vehicle should be designated: in front by a white headlamp (headlight), at the back - red.

Intersections

Outside the intersection on unregulated sites, the cyclist must skip vehicles moving along the road. If he crosses the carriageway on a pedestrian crossing, he should drive the vehicle next to him. In this case, its movement is regulated by instructions for pedestrians.

Restrictions

The rules for riding a bicycle at a crossroads prohibit the use of a technically faulty facility, equipment with violations of the requirements established by regulatory enactments. It is not allowed to move on the transport without holding onto its steering wheel or lowering its legs on the pedals. The rules of cycling on the road set limits for the cases of turning and turning left. In particular, it is prohibited to maneuver in the presence of a tramway or more than one strip in the direction of travel. The rules of cycling around the city do not allow going to the roadway to ice or snow. You can not carry passengers, except children under 7 years in a specially equipped seat. The rules of cycling around the city do not allow the carriage of goods that protrude more than half a meter in width or length beyond the dimensions of the vehicle, and objects that interfere with the control.

Age restrictions

Without the accompaniment of an adult, it is forbidden to manage persons who have not reached:

  • 14 years old - by bicycle. The exception is moving through residential, pedestrian areas, sidewalks and specially designated areas.
  • 16 years old - moped. Exceptions are residential and pedestrian areas.

Transport admission

The rules of cycling establish certain requirements for the technical condition of the facility. In particular, the transport must be equipped with an efficient braking system, steering control, an audible signal. In addition, it is necessary to have a rear-view mirror. Front should be a white reflector, rear - red, and on the side - orange.

Behavior during actions: general information

The performance of entertainment events with the participation of cyclists is associated with a high risk for life. It is quite difficult to achieve coherence when moving large groups. Each participant of such an action needs to know and follow the rules of riding a bicycle. In addition, there are simple recommendations, compliance with which will ensure the safety of health and life and exclude injuries.

Moving in a group

The rules for cycling include the following:

1. Observance of the distance. Of particular importance is the distance to the moving ahead.

2. Straight line movement. Do not maneuver and move inside the column. If there is a desire to be close to friends, relatives in the group, then it is better to take the necessary position at the start.

3. Movement within the group. If the column moves along the sidewalk, it should not be turned out onto the roadway.

4. Do not talk on the phone. In addition, that when you move on a bicycle in this case, attention is lost, with sudden braking with one hand, it is possible to fall. This, in turn, can lead to trauma.

5. Do not smoke or drink alcohol.

6. Deceleration and rotation should be smooth. In doing so, you should warn the rest of the participants with gestures:

- With a decrease in speed, the hand should be raised;

- if there is an obstruction (pothole, open hatch, etc.) during a detour, you should point to it.

It is necessary to follow the gestures of other participants, especially those going ahead. Breaking these simple rules of riding a bicycle, you endanger not only your own life, but also those around you.

Moving volunteers

These active cyclists provide voluntary assistance in the organization and conduct of shares. Each volunteer is given a special vest with reflective elements. This allows you to select them in the column. Depending on the responsibilities, volunteers are:

  1. Guides. They set the optimal speed of movement, in which people with various physical training will be comfortable to go. They control the movement on the slopes. To avoid "blockages" guides reduce the speed of the column. After a long climb, they hold the group, waiting for the laggards. Participants in the column should not overtake the guides. Volunteers, in turn, warn others about the emerging obstacles.
  2. On duty. This category of volunteers is built along the left edge of the column. Due to this, a group of cyclists is allocated from the general flow of vehicles. In addition, the attendants warn the movement of the column members outside the right lane. In addition, this category of volunteers ensures observance of order, makes sure that no one violates the rules of riding a bicycle.
  3. The closing ones. This group controls the tail of the column. Volunteers ensure that the participants comply with the high-speed regime, do not stretch and do not break away from each other for a long distance. If someone stops or lags, the reasons for what happened are clarified. If necessary, volunteers hold the column or secrete from it a participant who needs medical, technical or other help.

Rules for riding a bicycle for schoolchildren

It was stated above that persons who are not yet 14 years old should be accompanied by adults. In addition to this, the cycling rules for school children contain the following requirements:

  • Movement of persons 7-14 years old is allowed on the sidewalks, within the pedestrian zone. They are also allowed to walk on bike and bike paths. Moving along dedicated lanes, roadsides and roadways is prohibited.
  • Movement of children under 7 years is only allowed together with pedestrians.

The child must have appropriate equipment. The rules for riding a bicycle for children do not contain any direct requirements for this. However, the presence of a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads will significantly reduce injuries.

Common violations

One of the most common is the movement towards cars. The next common violation is moving on a pedestrian crossing. If necessary, cross the road through the zebra, you need to get off the bike and go on foot, driving it close. Otherwise, an emergency situation may occur. The fact is that a moving person on a bicycle is not a pedestrian. And when crossing the carriageway along the zebra, the driver of the car should not miss him, in fact, should not. Very often in such situations, there is a collision. In addition, cyclists often appear on the road suddenly. This also leads to an accident. In this regard, in the summer, motorists should be more attentive on the roads.
