Astrameriya: cultivation and care

These plants can be cultivated in the open ground throughout the year only in those climatic zones where the winter is very warm. Also, the flower of astrameria can tolerate a slight freezing of the soil layer. Therefore, in regions with a not very cold climate it is possible to grow it, covering the rhizomes for the winter with mulch or straw, and also arranging good drainage. The flower of astramerium prefers brightly lit places, without direct sunlight, and loose, moderately nutritious soil. Butonization occurs at a temperature above sixteen degrees Celsius. Overheating of the soil will negatively affect the plant. Pour should be moderate, making sure that waterlogging around the roots does not lead to decay. Flowering continues from early summer to mid-August. Some species can be easily multiplied by seeds. But most of them still plant a division of tubers. This should be done in the spring. And after the transplant should not be expected from the plant rapid bloom. Seeds sow in May in a mixture of deciduous and turfy land, after three weeks they begin to care for small shoots. They can blossom only next year. Astramery must be protected from pests and diseases. One of the most dangerous is flower thrips, it is eliminated with chlorpyrifos. From the mealy worm, whiteflies or scabbards get rid of as follows: remove all pest-damaged leaves and shoots, sprayed with special preparations (adapted insecticides).

Flower of astramerism in bouquets

This bright plant, which is also called the "Peruvian lily", is not inferior to orchids by its exotic beauty. On the flower market it is very popular and is a part of very many floral compositions. In addition to beauty, it has one more indisputable advantage - it takes a long time to cut it (up to two weeks, subject to regular water changes), without requiring special care. "Peruvian lily" is used in flower symbolism. Its variegated various buds with contrasting strokes, being included in the bouquet, mean favors and friendly feelings. Astrometry can be presented to a single-minded girl, emphasizing her independence. In the bouquet, these flowers look good in the company of primroses, orchids and roses. And just a combination of different shades of astromerics in a big armful makes a great impression. They are also used for wedding bouquets and for decorating rooms. It must be remembered that the juice of this plant is toxic, and thoroughly wash hands after contact with it.
