The flower is cyclamen. Features of care

In ancient Greece, cyclamen was called a sleeping flower, because for most of the year he sleeps, completely getting rid of leaves and flowers. The cyclamen owes its name to its root system, the bulb of which is almost an ideal circle, and the word "cyclos" in Latin means a circle. In Russia, the flower cyclamen was called "dregs", and sometimes - an insulting name "pig bread", because it was noticed that his tubers suited wild boars. It is worth noting that the entire life of the cyclamen plant is concentrated precisely in its tuber.

The period of flowering cyclamen is winter. And given that most domestic plants do not bloom at this time , the flower cyclamen will please its owners with a lush and bright flowering. Every year this plant, with flowers similar to exotic butterflies, is gaining increasing popularity.

One of the distinctive features of the cyclamen is the variety of colors of colors: these are different versions of shades of red and pink, purple and white, and you can also see flowers with double petals. The flowers of the plant are curved back and a little pointed, on the leaves there is a grayish gray pattern.

Cyclamen blooms continue for quite a long time, depending on the conditions and variety of the flower. Flowering begins in mid-October and ends at the end of March.

When choosing a cyclamen, special attention should be paid to the condition of the flower tuber. He should not have signs of putrefaction and be wrinkled. Leaves should not be sluggish, with dried edges, and should not have visible damage. It is better to purchase cyclamen at the beginning of flowering, while the flower should have a sufficiently large number of buds.

It is believed that flowers cyclamen care require very thorough, but this is not entirely true. With the necessary care, the plant will bloom for at least twenty years. The main factor in caring for the cyclamen in the flowering period is strict adherence to the temperature regime. This plant loves a cool temperature, but it should not fall below +10 C and not be more than +20 C. The optimum temperature is + 12 ... + 15 degrees. In this case, the cyclamen needs a good light, but is afraid of direct sunlight.

Many believe that the tuber of the plant is completely buried. This is also a mistake - the plant does not like it. A third of the tuber should be above the soil level. It is worth noting that the flower cyclamen does not like large pots, in them the plant blooms badly and the probability of decaying roots is high.

Cyclamen needs regular watering, but the water should not fall on the leaves and flowers, as well as on the tuber zone. Therefore, to water the flower is closer to the edge of the pot or pour water into the pan. But it must be borne in mind that with waterlogging, the tuber may rot and the flower may die.

After the end of flowering, there is a period of rest. Leaves and flowers fall. Not fallen leaves are neatly cut off with scissors or twisted, it is important not to damage the tuber. During the rest period it is important to reduce the watering of the plant, it is only necessary to ensure that the soil does not dry out. In this period, the flower cyclamen is best transferred to a darker and cooler place, while the main thing is not to forget that the plant does not like dry air and high temperature. As soon as the first leaves appear, this will be the first sign that the plant safely endured a rest period.

It is necessary to take into account the transplant period of the cyclamen. It begins after the end of the period of "hibernation" and continues until the moment when the plant blooms. When replanting the soil is replaced completely. Tuber cleansed of rotten roots. Feeding the plant can begin four weeks after the transplant.
