About what is Blue-Ray

Not so long ago we, being children, listened with our moms and dads old-fashioned records, and the overall radiolink was the last squeak of fashion. It took very little time, and audio cassettes appeared, followed by audio CDs and MP3 discs. Do not have time to get used to home media players, how smart TVs appeared that can broadcast video from USB flash drives and the Internet. One of the latest, rapidly gaining popularity of new products is Blue-ray. What is Blue-Ray and what is the feature of this technology - this is exactly what will be told in our article.

Blue ray

This is how the name of the latest development of the association BDA (Blu-ray Disc Association) - a group of the world's leading developers of communications, personal computers and electronics. What is Blue-Ray? This is the format of a new optical disc of the latest generation, which was invented specifically to facilitate the process of playback, recording and re-recording of high-resolution video files, as well as for the convenience of storing voluminous information. In order to be clearer, use the language of figures and give some comparisons. To understand what Blu-ray is, imagine a DVD that holds information more than five times more than usual. Thanks to the new development, now it can write up to 25 GB (if it's single-layered) or up to 50 GB of data. And that's not to mention the fact that this technology is being improved and there is already support for the multilayeredness of such disks. The Blu-ray format is based on a new standard, which involves reading data using a blue (to be exact, then a purple) laser whose wavelength is 405 nanometers. This explains the name, which is incomprehensible to many people. For reading old CD-ROM discs, the wavelength is 780 nanometers, for newer DVD-650 nm. This decrease allowed in its time to increase the capacity from 700 MB to 4.38 GB (double-layered twice as much). Talking about what Blu-ray, it is worth mentioning that this format allows you to record / read data at a speed of at least 36 Mb / s!

History of invention

Work on the new format began in 2000. One of the first who started this was the corporation Sony. Initially, the development went on two parallel directions: DVR Blue and UDO (reduction from Ultra Density Optical). Subsequently, the first technology was renamed the "blue ray", i.e. Blu-ray. In the same year, the first prototypes were released and at the CREATEC exhibition, people first learned what Blue-Ray is. The official announcement happened in 2002 and after that the BDA association was created, the purpose of which was to promote the new format. Toshiba Corporation decided not to join this alliance and together with the company NEC began to develop their own version of the super-spacious disk. In the same 2002, these companies announced Advanced Optical Disk, which was later renamed HD DVD. The victory in this confrontation went to Blu-ray technology and since then the sales of disks of this kind are steadily gaining momentum. Externally they look the same as the familiar DVD. But the quality of the video, which thanks to the large capacity it is possible to record on them (especially if it's Blu-ray 3D), is so different from what we saw before that literally everyone who ever sees it, will prefer to watch the video only in this Excellent format.
