HDMI connector: the coryphaeus in the world figures

When you visit electronics stores you often see a funny picture: sellers, praising modern technology, very often indicate the presence of HDMI connectors as an indisputable argument for the purchase of goods. The magic phrase "... there is an HDMI connector, and not one, there are three of them!" Usually the buyer does not say anything. Today we are closing the gap in technical knowledge. The task of the review is to review and systematize the information on the connectors, which in modern technology serve for the transmission of audio and video.

Start over. To date, there are two options for the transfer of information: analog and digital. Earlier, while digital technologies were still at the stage of theoretical development, the analogue method of signal transmission prevailed in technology. Gradually, with the advent of computers and other computer technology, the way information was transmitted with the help of numbers began to occupy more and more space in our lives. Computers, CD / DVDs, devices for recording and playback, LCD TVs and the World Wide Web are all based on a digital way of working with information.

Why overload yourself with this information? It's simple: the more we know, the more comfort and convenience in our life. It's not enough just to buy a modern TV, DVD or satellite receiver. Their maximum they can only reveal when the connection is correct.

We will not bore you with technical casuistry. The conversation today will be about connectors / cords, through which information is transferred from one device to another. In household appliances there are several standard connection options. We offer an overview of the most commonly used connectors. The higher the serial number, the higher the quality of the transmitted signal.

Analog connections:

  1. The usual "antenna input" is the connector used in each TV. A technology that has been tested for decades. To date, there are better options for transmitting a high-quality signal.
  2. "Tulip", other names: composite, A / V. This is a better signal transmission option. Separately transmitted video signal (plug and socket yellow), separately audio (plugs and sockets of red and white).
  3. S-video. This is the next step on the road to the ideal. Today it is often used in computer technology for high-quality video signal transmission. The sound does not transmit.
  4. SKART is a widespread option in Europe and Asia. Transmits sound and quality picture. We do not use often.
  5. Component In / Out - Three wires are used to transmit the video signal. The sound does not transmit. It is recommended to use when connecting large LCD TVs. Specialists consider in some cases this option is more worthy than the HDMI connector.

Separately I want to mention the computer VGA / D-sub (analogue, only the picture transmits) and a DVI connector, which, depending on the type, can transmit and receive both the number and analogue.

Digital connections:

  1. Coaxial digital input - digital connector for video. Outwardly very similar to the usual "tulip". On this similarity ends - only digital information is transmitted, the frequency range is much wider than analog "colleagues in the shop".
  2. DVI is the younger brother of HDMI. The connector transmits a quality digital signal. However, without loss, the Full HD signal is transmitted only for a distance of up to 5 meters. This is its "feature".
  3. The HDMI connector is today the most "advanced" and widely used option for transmitting audio and video in digital form. It has a lot of advantages over its "brothers": high-definition video transmission, 3D images, multi-channel sound - all this is available thanks to this work of modern technologies. Also widely used in computer technology (standard HDMI connector and mini HDMI in mobile devices), which allows to significantly expand the application horizons.

As for HDMI compatibility - today this is not a problem. Manufacturers have taken care of the compatibility of all connectors. On sale there are different cable options, in addition, there are numerous HDMI adapters. The difficulties of connecting various types of connections are solved by going to the nearest electronics store. However, it is worth remembering that the more adapters - the greater the loss of quality.

Without a doubt, progress does not stand still. Already, we can talk about the approach of new connection options and ways of transferring digital content. But before the mass introduction of new products is still far away. While the unconditional coryphaeus in the world, the numbers can be called the HDMI connector. When choosing a technique, consider its potential. Now, we hope it's not so difficult.
