Enuresis in children: treatment

A fairly common problem for many parents is enuresis in children. Treatment in this case, oddly enough, requires a professional, that is, built on the recommendations of a neurologist. This therapy, of course, is quite long and involves the implementation of certain actions. However, treatment, as a rule, gives a positive result.

First of all, it is necessary to try to influence the sleep of the child, making it less deep. Here you can use the long-proven techniques: before going to bed do not take a warm relaxing bath, but on the contrary - a cool shower. You can also use tonic drugs in small doses taken at night. Such are atropine, ephedrine, belladonna, etc. In severe cases, when tonic drugs do not help cure enuresis in children, the treatment is based on the intake of antidepressants prescribed by a neuropathologist.

Do not underestimate the mobilizing psychotherapy. It is necessary to try to explain to the child that there is a problem (urinary incontinence), and its elimination requires his own desire. Simply put, it is necessary to inspire the child that if he does not want to be cured, then no one can help him in this. In order to help the baby, he needs to develop a reflex to urination: wake up every night at a strictly defined time and lead to the toilet, which is 100% awakened, so that the child does everything consciously.

Compulsory procedures are also reflexo- and physiotherapy. The last type of procedures for improving trophic treatment involves the imposition of paraffin applications and electrophoresis on the area of the bladder. To strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor prescribed therapeutic exercise (LFK). Well, it is not excluded counseling therapist.

Now about how you can medically affect children's enuresis. Treatment in this case is based on the intake of vitamins B2, B6 and B12, improving microcirculation, enuresis powder (before bedtime), which contains ephedrine, belladonna extract, B vitamins, etc., as well as adiurecrin. This drug increases the reabsorption in the tubules of sodium and water, resulting in less urine, and the child also less urinates. Of course, preparations based on vasopressin are not intended for long-term use, however in complex therapy the effect is very good.

"Spinal bladder" - this is another type of pathology, more severe and less amenable to correction, since there is damage to the spinal cord. In this case, enuresis in children, whose treatment can last for many months, provides for mandatory consultation and compliance with the prescriptions of a neurologist and urologist. Similar disorders of the urinary system can occur, for example, with transverse myelitis or expressed spinal hernias.

Enuresis in children: treatment by stages

In order for the treatment of enuresis in children to be the least time-consuming and most effective, it is necessary:

1. Find out the obstetrical anamnesis in all details. This will help determine the nature of enuresis: a neurotic state or nevertheless a neurosis.

2. Conduct a number of laboratory studies:

  • The analysis of urine according to Zimnitskiy and Nechiporenko;
  • 3-5 general urine tests;
  • Analysis of the rhythm of urination and the amount of excreted urine on Saturday and Sunday;
  • Ultrasound examination of the organs of the urinary system for the detection of gross urological defects.

3. In the presence of any deviations from the norm in the analysis, in order to identify urological and neurological pathology, an x-ray urological examination is performed. In the absence of such deviations, EEG and EchoEG, myography and subsequent consultation of a neuropathologist or psychiatrist (depending on the nature of enuresis) are prescribed. If the therapeutic effect is not observed for the next 6-12 months, a repeated x-ray-urological examination is prescribed.

In most cases, in the absence of traumas of the brain or spinal cord and congenital malformations that prevent the child's proper development, by the age of 9-11 the children's enuresis ceases, as the necessary reflexes are formed. If timely treatment of the disease has not been made, the probability of developing more serious diseases, such as pyelonephritis or mental disorder, is high.
