Dogmatik is bad?

Dictionaries define the word "dogma" as a statement accepted for faith; It is a truth that does not require proof. According to Dal, the dogmatic exposition of any scientific work presupposes its completeness and opposition to the historical, developing. A scientist or writer who operates with such truths may well be called a dogmatist.

Dogmatic method

In the history of philosophy, the dogmatic trend of thought has been known since the time of Hellenism. Dogmatics is in the philosophy of that time the use of positive affirmations in describing the world. In contrast to dogmatists, skeptics questioned everything.

The concept of dogmatism is connected, first of all, with a specific method that allows, using the means of logic developed by Aristotle, to draw obvious conclusions on the basis of non-obvious premises. The main postulates of the method consist in the identity between being and its reflection in the mind of man; The phenomenon of the external world and its meaning; And also in self-sufficiency of thinking.

Hegel himself considered his system dogmatic, since he used the thinking apparatus as the supreme method of obtaining evidence of truth.

Dogmatist is the defender of dogmas

In everyday life, dogmas have been termed concepts that are divorced from reality, which, being taken for truth in the last instance, are used by their apologists to refute everything that contradicts them.

Such an approach can occur in any sphere of life: in the family, in an educational institution, in politics, etc. And it is by no means always harmless. Dogmatism has well-known consequences: misconceptions, prejudices, prejudices. They interfere with the adequate perception of reality and effective activity.

In any authoritarian society, being a dogmatist is considered a good form. However, when social changes begin , such people have to tightly, as they have to learn to think differently, to get used to independence.

Dogmatics is stability

Nevertheless, the lack of a system of dogmas that determine the functioning of a particular social system can threaten its stability. From this position, the existence of the state is determined by legal dogmatism. This is the totality of all established legal norms in force in the territory of a given country, and in addition, the activities of lawyers in its interpretation and maintenance.

Only relying on legal dogma, legal evidence as such must be built and legal science can develop .

The Nature of Dogmatism

The roots of dogmatism should be sought in human nature itself, considering them from the standpoint of sociology, neurophysiology and psychology.

First of all, it is social inertia, which captures large masses of people, keeping their consciousness in the labyrinth of obsolete dogmas. It manifests itself when there is no tradition in the society of a critical comprehension of reality, when people are not taught from childhood to think and evaluate events occurring in the world, and massively inculcate behavioral cliches and stereotypes.

From the point of view of neurophysiology, the fact that the body is able to effectively use the experience gained, ensures its survival in the future. Activities in the present depend both on the accumulated experience and on the ability of goal-setting, that is, it is determined simultaneously from the past and the desired future. At the brain level, this process is provided by a specific neural structure - the engram. She is responsible for the inertia of thinking and behavior.

It should also be noted that all these processes, as a rule, are not realized. It is for this reason that it is so difficult to get rid of the guiding behavior of the dogmatic belief system.

Therefore, we can say that a dogmatist is a person stuck in the past.

Where is the truth?

How does the dogmatist prove his point? This, in the opinion of the ancient lovers of wisdom, occurs in the form of an affirmative monologue. Dialectics built the proof in a different way, preferring to ask questions in free discussion.

The dogmatist, even if he asks, is rather rhetorical, not expecting a constructive answer. His question might sound like this: "Did you see what this idiot did?"

An unwavering dogmatist is a person who has an established system of beliefs that allows him to prove his case even if facts tell the contrary. Truth by definition can not be born in a dispute with a real dogmatist - he either asserts it or rejects it.

Portrait of a Dogmatist

As a rule, a dogmatist is a slow-witted man. That is why it is difficult for him to participate in disputes. His speech, he needs to work out in advance, make a home-made piece, so that all the theses were backed by weighty arguments. He prefers to move from idea to empiricism, but not vice versa. The idea for him is actually objective. In its extreme expression, dogmatism may have a resemblance to paranoia, but more often it falls into the definition of a "mentor" or a "learned donkey."

But in the general case, a dogmatist is always a philosopher, trying to tie together disparate facts that fall into his field of vision. To agree with him, we need to look for points of contact and not give him the opportunity to move on to personalities. It is difficult, but achievable. The main thing is to remain calm and good-natured.
