Disc brakes on the bicycle - an effective solution for reliable braking

Every year more and more people are switching to an eco-friendly kind of transopt - bicycles. In some European countries, each family has several bicycles and actively uses them. We are also actively moving to this type of transport. Sport, tourism, amateur driving, a vehicle - all this is connected with bicycles. The designer of the leading bicycle companies do not sit idly by, and come up with more and more new devices that must ensure first and foremost safety and convenience of driving.

The brake mechanism is one of the main in any mode of transport. In the mid-nineties, disc brakes were actively applied to a bicycle. This innovation made driving on it much safer. At first, disc brakes on the bicycle were expensive and used only on expensive models. Recently, such brake mechanisms have become cheaper and have become widely used on almost all models.

The mechanism of operation for all types of disc brakes is the same, the brake disc is rigidly attached to the wheel hub. The second part of the brake mechanism, which is called the "caliper," is fixed to the frame of the bicycle. By pressing the brake lever, we move the brake pads with the help of the piston , which clamps the brake disc.

Disc brakes on a bicycle are of two kinds - hydraulic and mechanical. Their main difference is the transfer of braking force directly to the brake pads.

In mechanical disc brakes, this is done using a cable. The use of a cable as a transmission link is the most important drawback of mechanical disc brakes. After all, the cable under considerable loads, as a rule, stretches, which significantly reduces the effectiveness of this type of brake system. But the main advantage that have mechanical disc brakes on the bike is the price. They are much cheaper than hydraulic ones.

Hydraulic disc brakes are more complex in the device, but reliable in operation. To transfer the braking force, a special liquid is used here. Of course, there is a possibility that this liquid will freeze in severe frost, but in such climatic conditions the use of a bicycle is rare.

Hydraulic brakes are divided into closed type and open. They are most effective in operation unlike other types of brakes. If it is necessary to strengthen the braking, it is necessary to apply hydraulic disc brakes to the bicycle, which, by their reliable work, will ensure timely braking.

The installation of disc brakes on the bike has both advantages and disadvantages. Among the advantages I would like to note the smoothness and reliability of the brake, even with a significant impact of the wheel, there is no impact on the rim of the wheel.

The main disadvantages of this braking system is the price, increase in the weight of the bicycle, the complexity of installing the trunk, the problematic repair.
