What is edema of the testis shell?

Gidrotsele - the accumulation of fluid in the scrotum around both or one shell of the testicle. This disease can be of two types: congenital and acquired. If it is not treated, the disease can go into a chronic form.

Anatomy of male testicles

Both organs are located in the scrotum. They are formed in the abdominal cavity of the growing fetus, then, just before birth, they descend. Ovaries are oval in shape, in an adult male - about 4 inches in length. Together with the appendages, they weigh from 20 to 30 grams.

Appendages of the testicle are necessary for the maturation of spermatozoa. After this, during the ejaculation, they enter the vas deferens, the length of which is about 50 cm.

For protection, the testicle shells are needed. Their anatomy is so, because they are the central organ for fertility and procreation. In the testicles the male seed matures, fertilizing the female egg.

Causes of hydrocele

In most cases, dropsy occurs in adult males. Statistics say that it is mainly diagnosed in patients who are over 40 years old.

The main causes of the disease:

  1. A dropsy of the egg shell and spermatic cord can occur if there were infectious diseases, inflammations, trauma, and tumors.

  2. If there is generalized edema.

  3. As a result of blockade of the spermatic cord.

  4. Drinking can occur due to many sports (martial arts, football, cycling), so you need to protect yourself from injuries.

  5. During sexual intercourse, you should always use a condom to significantly reduce the risk of infection. STDs do not always infect the testicles, but this is not a rare occurrence. It is better to be safe.

In newborns, it occurs as a result of poor blood circulation and the inadequate position of the baby in the womb.

In most cases, the cause of edema of the testicle is unknown. If there is swelling in the scrotum, you should immediately consult a doctor.

How to recognize the symptoms of the disease?

The first sign of hydrocephalus of the testicle is the enlargement of the scrotum. In the main, the hydrocele is asymptomatic. In children, it is congenital, and usually occurs at the age of one year without treatment. In men, edema of the testicle shells with time manifests itself, they experience discomfort, as the scrotum swells and becomes heavy. This can create difficulties when walking or sitting.

Painful sensations depend on the size, the accumulated fluid in the testicles. As a rule, dropsy in the morning is not as felt as during the day. The size of the edema may increase with pressure on the abdomen. Children born prematurely have a high risk of developing pathology.

With chronic forms of hydrocele, difficulty in urinating and cutting pain in the lower abdomen can occur.

With this disease you need to be patient, as it usually comes without any symptoms, does not require treatment and gradually disappears.

Gidrotsele does not disappear for a long time

If the edema of the testis shell persists longer than usual, causes severe pain and other symptoms, then consult a doctor for examination. The disease itself does not cause any serious problems, but the doctor should rule out other serious problems that can cause the same symptoms as hydrocele. They may have similarities to inguinal hernia, infectious diseases, benign tumors, testicular cancer.

Hydrocele does not affect the childbearing function. But still, if the boy's congenital water drop does not last for a year, and for men this condition lasts more than 6 months, you need to contact the clinic for further examination.

After the examinations, if nothing is found, and the symptoms do not go away and intensify, you will be recommended for surgery, since the drugs in this case are ineffective.

Required tests to identify the disease and its causes

To confirm the diagnosis, the doctor must conduct a test, known as diaphanoscopy. This examination is carried out with the help of translucence of soft tissues by a beam of light. If the liquid is clear, it is just a dropsy of the testicles. If it is cloudy, there may be blood or pus.

To better understand what is happening inside the scrotum, doctors use the following types of examination:

  1. Ultrasound.

  2. MRI.

  3. CT.

Blood and urine tests help to eliminate the presence of diseases such as epididymitis, mumps and various STDs. You may also need a surgical examination. It is necessary to confirm the diagnosis of hydrocele, if the disease is caused by some other pathology.

Surgical removal of fluid

The operation is recommended when the symptoms do not pass, but the fluid accumulates more and more. Operative intervention involves a small incision in the scrotum or lower abdomen. Then the liquid is drained off. This is a simple operation, so no further hospitalization is required.

After surgery, the patient needs complete rest for 48 hours. This applies to the intimate life: sex is contraindicated within a week.

Also, the liquid in the testicle can be removed with a syringe and a needle. However, if it is sucked in this way, it can return within a few months.

Another method of treatment is sclerotherapy. This is the introduction of a special solution into the scrotum, that the liquid does not begin to accumulate again.

Possible complications after fluid withdrawal:

  • Allergic reactions to anesthesia (breathing problems);

  • bleeding.

Signs of infection include pain in the groin, inflammation, redness, unpleasant odor, a slight increase in temperature.
