Bulimia: consequences, causes, treatment

There are many mental disorders and diseases that have emerged quite recently. Some of them seem so unusual or even ridiculous that it is difficult to imagine how they could have been perceived in past centuries. These diseases include bulimia. The consequences, causes and treatment of it will be discussed in this article.

What is bulimia

Bulimia is nothing more than an excessive craving for food intake, which is then removed from the stomach by artificial vomiting. This disease has appeared recently, but at the moment is very common. For the most part, girls between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five are affected by it. Bulimia, the consequences of which can be very severe ( lethal outcome is also possible ), is treated very hard and can return again even after the person has completed the full course of treatment.

The first stage of this disease is characterized by the absorption of food in large pieces, without chewing and, as a rule, very quickly. The second stage is characterized by artificial vomiting.

Symptoms of bulimia

Bulimia makes people closed, unsociable, secretive. They can observe constant mood swings. Patients feel lonely and helpless, as the subconscious still understands that bulimia does not lead to good, and it is impossible to get rid of it.

Throat diseases often occur:

  • angina;
  • pharyngitis.

The following problems also occur:

  • Tooth decay;
  • Deterioration of the skin;
  • Problems with digestion;
  • Violation of the menstrual cycle;
  • hoarseness;
  • Constipation;
  • Exhaustion of the body.

People who have bulimia, very rarely admit to themselves and others that this is really a real problem, which is difficult to get rid of. Of course, denying the fact only contributes to the development of the disease, since they do not even want to think about what bulimia is dangerous.

Causes of the disease

Strangely enough, little is known about its causes. However, we can say with certainty that it would not have existed, if not for the abundance of false ideals and values that we see everywhere today. TV, the Internet - it's all where we get information about what you need, and what you do not need to be. The image of the popular doll Barbie made many girls complex because of their appearance, as well as look for all kinds of ways to lose weight. Gradually it turns into a mania and leads to the fixation of all thoughts only on its appearance. The result is a constant stress, and with it many are accustomed to fight with food. Again, a paradox is obtained, since losing weight and eating a large meal are incompatible. Many people see a way out of it in vomiting, which is caused artificially.

Bulimia: Consequences

Approximately in five percent of cases, everything ends in a lethal outcome. Bulimia, the consequences of which are discussed here, is harmful to the entire body. The person simply "dries up", the digestive tract starts to work worse, teeth spoil, vision deteriorates, hair falls out. One can not ignore the fact that bulimia also hits the psyche - bulimia patients stand just a few steps away from psychosis and complete insanity.

How to deal with bulimia

To realize that it is a problem is half the battle. Independently to get rid of it it is possible only at presence of huge will power, and also the big desire to return to a normal condition. Most often bulimia is treated in special medical institutions. Treatment must be comprehensive. Usually the course includes:

  • Taking medications;
  • Diet;
  • Conversations with a psychologist;
  • physical exercises.

A good indicator in the treatment of bulimia is that the patient ceases to refuse the sweet.
