Balsam room. How to plant and grow?

Balsam room is a flower that gained its popularity as early as the beginning of the 20th century. They admired and grown it still our grandmothers, but until today balsam is considered one of the most common and popular flowers in our homes.

And why such a love for this plant? The main advantages - its unpretentiousness, lush beautiful flowering and rapid growth. To create suitable comfortable conditions for balsam is absolutely not difficult - it is a bright place on the window and abundant regular watering. Indoor flower balsam has a second name, given by the people, "Vanka wet." He does not tolerate a drought, as soon as the land has dried up due to the inattentiveness of the landlady, the leaves immediately lose the turgor, and simply hang in the form of a cloth, then turn yellow and fall off. Even after restoration, some of them still die, and at the same time the stem is barred from the plant.

House plant balsam is a herbaceous perennial with erect stems, which reaches a height of 30-50 cm. The leaves are arranged alternately. Leaves are up to 10 cm long and 4 cm wide. They have an oval-cordate shape, slightly wrinkled, slightly reddish or green with finely toothed edges of the leaf blade. Flowers in diameter reach 4 cm and have long spurls 4-5 cm in length. Axillary, solitary, bright, they give charm to the whole plant. To date, a lot of hybrids and different varieties have been hatched, which differ in their height, size, color, and the degree of the flower's petals, and there are also variegated varieties of balsam.

The balm room with proper care will long and continuously bloom and delight the eye. It requires loose air-permeable soil. For example, such a composition: leaf or sod land, compost or humus, sand river in a ratio of 2: 1: 1. If desired, add a little peat.

Pot should be selected according to the size of the flower. For the cuttings, a pot of 8-10 cm is suitable, then, as the bush grows, a slightly larger diameter is required to be transplanted, approximately 13-15 cm, and already for an adult flowering plant - 18-25 cm. Based on the experience of balsam lovers, The autumn season can be pruned, and it will bloom further, but it is more correct to root fresh new cuttings. In a new land, they will perfectly get accustomed and very quickly begin to bloom. Cuttings for this can be taken from any part of the plant, give rootlets and flowering tops. You just need to put them in water and put in a light penumbra.

Balsam room will grow well and on the brightly lit southern and northern windows, but summer noonday sunshine this plant can not stand. Although there are some varieties that are adapted to hot conditions. The most suitable temperature for this crop is 18-20 degrees, and in winter it is slightly lower (15-20 degrees). Fertilize balsam room every two weeks with complex fertilizer. The dose is half the standard recommended by the manufacturer.

For a beautiful and lush growth of a bush with every watering or once a week, you should turn the pot with a plant, so that the sun illuminates the flower from different directions, and it grows evenly in all directions.

Balsamina multiplies in the early spring, blooms in the same year. In the summer it is recommended to pinch the shoots a couple of times to stimulate branching. Balsamin is also multiplied with the help of seeds sown in January, but this will require additional lighting. When growing this plant, you should remember that balsam can damage the whitefly and spider mite.

In the flowering period of this culture it is desirable to clean flowers in time, which have already faded, so that the plant will have a well-groomed, beautiful, decorative and neat appearance.
