Why do the leaves turn yellow and how to help the tree?

Plum is one of the most favorite garden trees. By its popularity only pear and apple tree surpass. It is unpretentious and relatively resistant to many infections, but sometimes the tree begins to ache. Why do the leaves turn yellow when the autumn frosts are still a long time, and how can this be caused? Most likely, the tree suffered roots.

Look at the root

First, this may be a consequence of improper landing. In areas with a high level of groundwater, the roots may be flooded. Their lateral branches are destroyed, and the nutrition of the tree is deteriorating. First of all, the leaves of the middle tier suffer, they begin to turn yellow and fall off. The draining can also react to the strong drying of the earth during the vegetation period.

On carbonate soils, the tree can begin chlorosis. The leaves of the plum (photo) turn yellow, only a narrow strip along the veins remains green. Over time, most of the leaves begin to blacken and dry up the edges. The use of such drugs as "Helate" and "Antichlorosine" can save the plant.

Why do the leaves turn yellow when the cultivation technology is not broken? The reason can be in the frostbite. If branches and stems have been affected, they can be cut off. The defeat of the root wood is not so noticeable. They die off gradually, stopping supplying nutrients to the top of the crown. To restore the root system, the tree needs a long period. It is enough only one freezing, so that the consequences affect the state of the fruit and leaves for several years.

Yellowing of the plum leaves can respond to developing fungal disease or to pest infestation.

Verticillosis

The causative agent of the disease is the soil fungus Verticillium arbo-atrum. It is common in all climatic zones, and affects stone fruit: plum, apricots, cherry plum. Penetrates the inside of the tree through the wounds in the roots and quickly spreads upwards. He clogs his mycelium channels, through which water and nutrients enter. That is why the leaves turn yellow at the plum and twist, starting from the bottom to the top. Sometimes plums die immediately, sometimes they are in a deplorable state for a long time. If the disease began recently, you can start spraying "Previcur", "Vitaros" or "Topsinom-M". To prevent the fungus from spreading through the garden, you can not plant between plums susceptible to the verticillium culture: tobacco, strawberries, all nightshade. Sick trees are best destroyed, and the soil is decontaminated.

Moniliasis

Very dangerous disease caused by the fungus Monilia. His spores penetrate the pistils of flowering plums and germinate, causing the drying of flowers and young leaves, and then the death of branches. The parasite also affects the fruits, germinating in them with gray-black spots. Rapidly reproduces in conditions of coolness and high humidity.

To heal a tree, you need to cut out the shrunken branches, collect and burn the fallen leaves and fruits. Before flowering and after it, you should spray with "Hom" or "Horus".

Cockcomicosis

Until 1962, the Coccomyces hiemlis Higg fungus was considered a quarantine object. Cockcomic is another reason why the leaves turn yellow. After penetrating the fungus, very small specks appear on them. Gradually merging, they spread to most of the sheet. On the underside, you can see the white and pink fungus spores. Sometimes the leaves do not fall, but become brown and dry out. Fruits stop developing , the tree is greatly weakened, winter hardiness decreases.

To fight the disease, three sprayings of copper chloride or Bordeaux fluid are carried out: during bud formation, immediately after flowering and after harvesting.

Plague aphid

It is a sucking parasite of pale green color. At first, the aphid colonies are localized to the young growth, but they can spread rapidly throughout the tree. Because of its activity, the leaves on the plum roll, their edges turn yellow, droop and fall off. Sticky allocation of aphids on the underside of the leaves can attract a sooty mushroom, capable of ruining shoots.

To fight insects, you need to completely remove the shoots. In the spring, the tree is treated with Inta-Vir, stems and skeletal branches are covered with whitewash twice a year.
