Aerator for sewage: the principle of operation

As one of the important rules in the design of the sewage system is the absence of an unpleasant smell inside the premises. For this purpose, special measures are taken to block the backflow of air from the riser. Sanitary devices are fitted with siphons that have water locks. However, this is not always enough. One of the most effective means is the installation of a sewer aerator.

The principle of the aerator

Before you begin to understand the purpose and design features, you should ask what are the reasons for the arrival of air in the apartment from the central riser. The main source of this are the points of waste collection, to be more precise - sanitary devices. Air masses are moving through their outlet branch pipe. This phenomenon involves pressure in the riser pipe.

To identify the cause, it is recommended to consider the example of functioning of a toilet in a house or apartment. Quite often it becomes the cause of unwanted air exchange. If a volley discharge of liquid in a large volume occurs from the reservoir, this will result in excessive pressure. As a result of this movement, the pressure in the riser will increase. The entire volume of water will be in a vertical pipe, and after that it will rush down. There will be insufficient air, part of which will flow through the pipes under pressure. The pressure distribution will be uneven, the leakage of gases will cause an uneven distribution of pressure under the interlayer of the liquid.

In siphons, water locks will not be able to contain pressure and gas, the last of which will enter the room. This leakage should be compensated for what the pipe should be brought to the roof - the shortage of air will come from there. But if this method does not work, then the fence will be made of pipes connected to the riser. The outlet nozzles of the devices can compensate for the discharged pressure. Part of the smell from the sewer will penetrate inside. In order to eliminate this phenomenon, an aerator is used for sewerage.

What else is necessary to know about the features of the aerator

The aforementioned device is installed in order to prevent the ingress of gases during the occurrence of excessive pressure inside the premises. If you install similar devices in the calculated points of the pipeline and at the end ends of the risers, the internal low pressure will be held until the moment of stabilization. If the discharge occurs, the aerator will start its work, a special valve will be used to supply air for balancing external and internal pressure.

Thus, the sewage aerator performs two main functions. But for the correct operation of the device it is important to know how to perform the installation and at which point of the pipeline a certain model of the vacuum valve is required . When internal sewage systems began to be equipped , there was a need for erection of aerators. For stable operation it is required to provide air exchange of the main line with the medium. This role is played by the riser, which is higher than the roof. If you follow the rules, then it should be located at a height of at least 500 mm. But the distance to the nearest window structures can be 5 m.

Protection of work

The aerator for the sewage system is protected from getting garbage, for this purpose a deflector is installed on its end. In winter, there is a possibility of frost formation. This can happen because of the temperature difference, because the air is heated by sewage, the difference in temperature difference causes condensation. If there is a negative temperature on the street, the condensate will turn into ice. The aerator for the sewage system will be reduced in diameter, there will be a difference in internal pressure, which will result from a lack of air supply.

Specialist's recommendation

In order to eliminate the above-described problems, the riser is taken to the attic, while it will not contact the street, but an unpleasant smell will spread around the room. The aerator will eliminate this problem, because the gases will be retained in the pipe, which will become a protection. In addition, the function of the air valve will be performed, which serves to stabilize the pressure.

On the principle of working from a constructive point of view

For what an aerator is needed in the sewer, it was described above. But in order to understand how this device copes with the tasks assigned to it, it is necessary to become more familiar with the principle of work in terms of design. When a large volume of water descends, a system is discharged. The aerator at this time raises the stem with the membrane, it opens the holes located on the side. Through them, the required volume of air enters the sewage system, during which time the pressure is equalized.

As soon as the water column leaves inside the riser, the diaphragm stem sinks down. The holes on the sides overlap, the air stops coming in, and the aerator device balances the pressure and does not allow smell to enter the rooms. Installation of the aerator on the sewer should be carried out taking into account certain recommendations.

When choosing a device, you should pay attention to the installation method. On sale, you can find units designed for vertical and horizontal risers. It is important to ask also the power of the device, because this parameter will determine the amount of air that can pass through the system at a time. It is better not to be stingy, but to prefer a better model.

Diameters of aerators

The aerator for sewerage 110 mm is one of modifications of similar devices. Devices can differ not only in the internal device, but also externally, in addition, they are combined according to the principle of action. The most common aerators are 110 and 50 mm.

The first option can be installed on a common sewer, which goes to the attic. On the auxiliary riser the aerator can be installed in the bathroom of the apartment or a private house, with one of the units to be located in the attic. The valve-aerator of sewerage for 50 mm should be located near the sanitary equipment. This format is designed to serve one or two pieces of equipment.

The device must be installed if the length of the horizontal pipe is quite impressive. This recommendation extends also to the case when pipes of different diameters are transferred. In order to ensure correct operation of the device, the pipe must be given a horizontal slope.

Advice of a specialist

Professionals do not advise to expose the vacuum aerator for sewerage to an excessive load. This would be true if the device needed to be installed on the sewage pipe of a dishwasher or washing machine. That is why the unit must be located on top of the sewer riser.

Features of the installation

The sewer aerator, the principle of operation of which has been described above, must be installed in rooms that will be operated at an air temperature of at least 0 ° C. If the temperature turns out to be lower, the device may fail, icy. It is important to ensure easy ventilation of the room where the device is supposed to be installed.

If the toilet or bathroom ventilation is not so intense, then an additional installation of the device will be required. It is important to ensure free access to the installation site of the aerator. This requirement is due to the need for maintenance or replacement. The aerator should be installed at the highest point, 10 cm above the plumbing fixtures, on the left. If there are ramps on the floor, the minimum height of the valve arrangement will be 35 cm.
