Knauf Flachendicht waterproofing: properties and applications

Modern manufacturers of building materials tend to provide their customers with all the necessary goods. Knauf (Germany) also belongs to such organizations. It is a universal manufacturer that produces materials of various composition and purpose. One of the company's most popular products is the Knauf Flachendicht waterproofing.

Characteristics and types

Waterproofing "Knauf Flachendicht" is a polymer in the form of an aqueous dispersion on a synthetic latex base. As additives, the composition includes various inert aggregates. Has a blue color. Does not contain solvents. After contact with the surface, the waterproofing compounds form a waterproof elastic film.

The composition is applied by a layer of 1.1 mm thick, which after drying has a thickness of 0.8 mm. Usually, several layers are used. And the subsequent layer is applied after 3 hours after the previous one (at a temperature of 20 degrees and humidity of air of 50%). Tiles can be laid after 12 hours after the Knauf Flachendicht waterproofing was applied.

The consumption per 1 m2 is 700-1000 grams. This applies to materials with a smooth surface. For coatings having a more porous structure, the value increases to 900-1400 g / m 2 . Accordingly, one layer of material will require 350-700 g / m 2 (depending on the type of substrate). With this in mind, a package weighing 5 kg will be sufficient for waterproofing 3.5-5.5 m 2 surface. The dried material can withstand temperatures from minus 20 to plus 80 degrees.

The waterproofing "Knauf Flachendicht" can be of two types:

  • The dispersion is acrylic from Knauf Flachendicht. The price for a package weighing 5 kg is 1160 rubles.
  • Mastic rubber-bitumen. The cost is 1950 rubles for 5 kg.

The material is stored for 18 months in a tightly closed container.

Application area

Knauf waterproofing compounds can be used as waterproofing:

  1. Premises with high humidity and dampness. For example, a bathroom.
  2. Surfaces that are not resistant to moisture. These are the ones that are based on gypsum.
  3. Hygroscopic mineral bases: plaster based on cement or lime. In this category include concrete.
  4. As a waterproofing layer for ceramic tiles or natural stone, including for laying the warm floor.

Do not use the material in places where there is always a load that occurs under the pressure of water. I mean containers with liquid, pools, etc. Waterproofing "Knauf" can be applied to any kinds of surfaces:

  • Floors in wet rooms.
  • Bases of gypsum.
  • Roofs, balconies, mansard.
  • In the pools and showers under the tile.
  • On the slopes.
  • Internal and external surfaces.

Features of acrylic waterproofing

Acrylic dispersion on a water basis "Knauf" is used for:

  1. Waterproofing of bases that absorb water very much.
  2. In wet rooms to separate the filtered liquid.
  3. On the surfaces of mineral bases.
  4. On wooden materials.

It is used in the temperature range of 5-25 degrees. At the same time, they can not process the bases on which moisture constantly falls.

Rubber-bitumen mastic

This material has the following properties:

  • The product does not contain solvents and is completely safe for people.
  • It has good adhesion.
  • It is allowed to apply to metal surfaces, even exposed to corrosion.

Rubber-bitumen mastic is used in those cases when:

  1. It is necessary to waterproof the surface before laying the tiles, including in the pools.
  2. Waterproofing of the roof, balconies, terraces is done.
  3. It is necessary to protect the bottom of the car or other structures of metal from corrosion.

Use of waterproofing Knauf

Waterproofing "Knauf Flachendicht" is applied only on pre-prepared surfaces. For this, the base is cleaned of dirt, dust, oil stains or paint. If necessary, all cracks are puttied, unevennesses are smoothed. After that, the surface is ground and dried.

Waterproofing material is applied in two layers (if necessary, more is allowed, for example, on porous substrates) with a brush or roller. The layer should be thin and even and not exceed the limits specified by the manufacturer (not more than 1.1 mm). The material consumption does not increase. Waterproofing is applied to the surface from the side with which moisture acts.

In the corners, where the walls are connected to the floor or ceiling, and also to each other, an insulating tape is laid on the still wet layer of waterproofing. The mixture that appears through its cells is leveled. When using self-adhesive tape, it is laid before applying the second layer to the already dried surface. The existing pipes and bends are sealed with sealing cuffs. Used waterproofing "Knauf Flachendicht" at a temperature of 5 to 25 degrees. The frozen material can only be removed mechanically. Therefore, all tools are cleaned immediately after the work is finished.
