Why do people like to read? Statistics and facts

In one recent poll correspondents tried to find out from people who have read at least one book over the past year, for which they like reading. The answers were very different. Below we will describe them in detail.

Statistics

  • 26% of respondents said that they like learning and getting new information.
  • For 15% of the books were a means of escape from the harsh reality. They enjoyed diving into fantastic worlds.
  • 12% of respondents said they like entertaining reading. In this case, a good storyline and the presence of drama are important.
  • For another 12% of people, reading is a means of rest, during which they rest and body and soul.

  • 6% of respondents liked to get knowledge from their books about their professional sphere of interest.
  • 4% through reading expanded their worldview and enriched the spiritual world.
  • 2% liked the physical characteristics of books: the typographical smell of the pages and the ability to feel them with your fingers while turning over.

Data

  • For many respondents reading was not just a hobby, but a way of life. They preferred not to watch TV, but to create pictures in their heads.
  • The respondents themselves rated their answers as maximally frank and eloquent. One of the respondents, working as an English teacher, said: "I read in order to evaluate the traditional essays as objectively as possible."

  • One of the respondents expressed his attachment to reading as follows: "I love this activity because I leave my body and expand the boundaries of the mind."
