Who wrote "The Lay of Igor's Host? The Mystery of the Monument of Old Russian Literature

One of the greatest monuments of ancient Russian literature is "The Lay of Igor's Host". Many of the mysteries are shrouded in this work, beginning with fantastic images and ending with the author's name. By the way, till now the author of "The Lay of Igor's Campaign" is unknown. No matter how the researchers tried to find out his name - nothing succeeded, the manuscript keeps its secret in our days.

We will not talk about the history of the manuscript, about the role of A. Musin-Pushkin, A.S. Pushkin, N. Karamzin and other researchers in the restoration, translation and publication of the ancient monument of literature, but let us immediately go to the most important question of who wrote "The Lay of Igor's Host."

Starting to analyze the work, the researchers paid special attention to the beginning - in it appears the image of the Boyan-storyteller, an ancient mythical singer who glorified the heroic campaigns of the princes, "spreading his thoughts over the tree", singing with euphoric words "the gray eagle under the clouds". Unlike the generally accepted canons of celebrating heroes, the one who wrote The Lay of Igor's Regiment departs from traditions and in his own words tells about the events that took place in Russia after the reign of Vladimir Krasno Solnyshka. The narrator allows himself to introduce lyrical digressions, in which he talks about his inner feelings and thoughts, harmoniously integrating them into the characterization of images and current events.

Mythical characters, animals, the battlefield, feasts, Svyatoslav's word and Yaroslavna's weeping - the poet wonderfully animates and gives characters these characters. They become independent characters, which proves once again - the one who wrote "The Lay of Igor's Host" passionately loves the motherland and worries about its future. In this regard, special attention should be paid to the image of Prince Igor, the central character, whose campaign is devoted to the work.

The campaign against the Polovtsians of 1185 ended in failure, and the author-singer grieves over the loss of the prince's army near the Kayala River, involuntarily comparing this battle with the battles of Prince Oleg, Igor's grandfather - constant intestine wars, the death of princes and soldiers, princely quarrels - all this led to the sad Result.

The peculiarity of the narrator's language takes us to the past, and we see the events with his eyes - the question of who wrote "The Lay of Igor's Host" is no longer so important. Igor, defending the interests of the motherland and wishing to gain even greater fame, almost single-handedly goes on a campaign against the Polovtsians. He does not pay attention to bad signs (eclipse, cry Div), rushes into battle and falls into captivity. A brave, brave, desperate warrior is such a characteristic of Igor.

"The word of the regiment of Igor" with its plot is based on the Ipatyevsky and Laurentian chronicles, but this does not in any way mean that its author was a historian. On the contrary, Academician Likhachev argues that the author who wrote The Lay of Igor's Regiment is not a chronicler, not a historian, but a literate, well-read person who is not alien to the destiny of the whole state.

Anyway, "The Lay of Igor's Campaign" is a magnificent monument of historical fiction, the riddles of which are not yet fully understood.
