What is the game of the Dead Sea: history and modernity

In the global general classification of the Olympic Games there is such a thing as the saddle-ball game, which, along with the Olympic and Paralympic, attracts a huge number of participants and fans from all over the world. Who takes part in these competitions, and how do their participants differ from ordinary athletes? What are martial arts?

Deaflympics

Deaflympics are high-level sports competitions that are arranged for athletes suffering from hearing impairment. Such games until 1967 were called the International Games of the Deaf, and until 2001 - the World Games of the Deaf. They differ only in that they do not use sound signaling effects, such as the cotton of a signal pistol or the whistle of a judge. During competition tests, athletes are prohibited from using hearing aids or other devices that can improve or modify hearing. That's what the games of the Dead Sea.

A Brief History of the Dead Sea Games

The first in the world competitions of the deaf took place in 1924 in Paris. Their founder was the Frenchman Eugene Ruben-Alkai. After the games are over, he, together with other sports figures, founded the International Sports Committee of the Deaf and became its leader.

Participants in the first martial arts games were 148 athletes representing 9 European countries. Among them was only one female representative - a swimmer from Holland. Participants in sports competitions fought for 31 sets of medals in 7 kinds of competitions: track and field athletics, diving, shooting, cycling, football, swimming and tennis.

The first winter games

From the very first day of the foundation, the games were opened every 4 years, except during the Great Patriotic War. In 1949, the first games in the post-war period were held. And in the same year the first in the history of the saddle-Olympic winter games took place, which was taken by the Austrian ski resort of Seefeld. It was played only 5 sets of awards between 33 athletes from 5 countries.

In 1955, the IACS was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as an international sports federation with Olympic principles. And in 1965, the sourdempic games were held in Washington - for the first time outside Europe.

The history of martial arts for the Soviet Union began at the summer games in 1957 in Milan and in the winter of 1971 in the Swiss Adelboden. Despite the large-scale development of sport in the entire Soviet space, until this time little was known about what is the saddle-ball game, not to mention participation in them.

Trying to merge

In the 80-90s, an attempt was made to unite the games with the Paralympic movement. But this idea was faced with a number of organizational issues related to the specifics of communication with athletes, the need to accommodate a large number of sign language interpreters, etc. It was necessary to understand what the games are like and how difficulties can arise in the process of their organization together with the Paralympic direction.

For this reason, ICSG left the International Paralympic Committee in 1995, but retained the recognition of the IOC and its independence along with other Olympic organizations.

From the time of its founding to the present, 22 summer and 16 winter games have been organized. They were held at regular intervals, with the exception of the military period and in 2011, when Slovak organizers announced that they were not ready for accepting them in connection with financing problems a few days before the start of the 17th Winter Games. Thus, 17 games were not held. After investigating the reasons for the failure of the event, the Supreme Court of Slovakia found the head of the organizing committee guilty of fraud and sentenced him to 14.5 years of imprisonment.

The number of participants in the games is steadily growing from competitions to competitions. And the event is gaining popularity among fans of sports and sports events. In the 22-year-old competition, 2,711 athletes from 83 countries of the world participated in Sofia.

Russia accepts games

18 sardinympic games will take Magnitogorsk and Khanty-Mansiysk. Opening is scheduled for March 28, and they will end on April 5, 2015. Russia for the first time is the organizer of these competitions. During the competition, sets of awards will be played in 5 sports disciplines: mountain skiing, curling, snowboarding, hockey and cross-country skiing. 344 athletes from 27 countries will compete for medals. The delegation of Russia is the most numerous in its composition.

The mascot of the same cartoon will be the mascot of the games, and the symbol of the black grouse, similar to the hand, is the main means of communication between deaf and hard of hearing people.
