What is the difference between a neutered sheep and a neutered sheep?

Today some townspeople begin to engage in agriculture, in particular breeding cattle. And then they have to face unfamiliar things up to now.

Many just first find out that the cattle are castrated. And some even stop the tails. Naturally, the name of a holed goat or castrated ram, new farmers do not even have a clue at all. Also, not everyone knows why you need to conduct such operations.

What is the name of a castrated ram?

From somewhere it was believed that the word "dude" has something to do with the pet. In fact, this is not at all the case. And in all dictionaries a castrated ram is called a tree or a valah. Sometimes added to this number is the name "Valushka".

Although sometimes castrated ram is called "holed" or "laid out", which is also correct. This is the name of a male who has lost the ability to cover females due to surgery or other veterinary activities. The deprivation of an animal of this natural ability is called "castration" or "holovation". Sometimes the people in this case use the expression "lay the ram".

Why is castration of males necessary?

On the one hand, an uninitiated person may think that this procedure is harmful, from which the herdsman has no benefit. Well, in fact, is it necessary to neuter the rams, if the main goal of the farmer is to constantly increase the herd population?

The answer is yes - you need to! And the reasons explaining why they castrate rams are as follows:

  1. The meat of unrepresented males (bulls, boars, goats, rams and other animals) acquires a specific flavor after they enter the age of maturity.
  2. The castrated ram is gaining mass faster, it is better to accumulate fat. And for its fattening, less strong fodders are required, which, in turn, are much cheaper.
  3. Due to the coldness, animals lose interest in fights among themselves, become more calm, not aggressive towards a person.
  4. The owner can not bother giving males and females separate from the females and pasture: unwanted fertilization does not threaten lambs now.

Why do sheep breeders sometimes resist the covering of females?

Often in one farm there are different animals. The sheep breeder, for example, purchased individuals of more advanced breeds. But he still had young growth from the last plant. Mixing different breeds of animals is not just meaningless, but harmful.

Some females, being early ripe, are ready to cover already at a fairly young age. But fertilization before the time will undermine the health of the animal, its offspring may be weak and unviable.

There is also the danger of covering the sheep with a weak sheep. This, too, can lead to the birth of a substandard offspring.

To prevent this from happening, the farmer is forced to keep males and females separately. And pastures for grazing also have to be allocated in different places. And this requires the involvement of an additional labor unit, financial investments. Therefore, the easiest way out here will be castration of mongrel or simply superfluous rams. After all, for normal functioning of a herd of 15 sheep, one full adult adult ram will suffice.

What is castration?

Synonyms of this word are called, as already mentioned above, the peeling, repositioning, and holocaust. The medical name of this procedure is osseplyl.

What is the process? The human goal is to induce artificial infertility in the male. This can be achieved in several ways.

Bloodless methods of emaciation of sheep

There are two of them for today. The first is made with the help of a special device called burrizzo. It is used both for stopping tails and for castration.

With the help of the drizzle, the skin and flesh are squeezed together with the testicles. Due to this action, their bleeding and desiccation occurs. Positive can be considered that it allows you to avoid infection of open wounds, infection with tetanus of the animal. Of the negative are admitted the sufficient morbidity of the procedure and its duration.

Rubber rings also refer to the bloodless method. This procedure for duration can be delayed for a period of 10 to 20 days.

Sometimes sheep breeders use rubber rings for shortened castration, when they only contract the skin of the scrotum without capturing the testicles. This process is less painful. But the desired result is achieved, since the eggs raised up can not participate in the fertilization of females.

Laying out males using a scalpel

Very often veterinarians act in the old fashioned way - they perform an operation of a sheepfish that has reached half a year, only having processed the skin before cutting it with alcohol. Few people think about doing something to anesthetize the procedure.

But nevertheless, some people still believe that if animals are under the power of man, they serve him, even as food, then he is simply obliged to minimize their suffering as much as possible. Therefore, not so long ago, a shortened castration was invented.

This procedure differs from the traditional method of surgery in that, during its carrying out, the male only removes the scrotum. The very eggs of the sheep remain intact, but are shoved upward. Due to this, the male, although producing testosterone, can not fertilize the sheep.

And, finally, it is known to all directly castration, in which the shear is cut through the scrotum, the testicles are released outside and are removed. As a result of the operation, an open wound is obtained, into which an infection can come from outside with dust, dirt, flies and other insects.

A person who decided to engage in cattle breeding should know more about his business. And so it is so important to keep abreast of all the innovations that scientists and veterinarians offer to sheep breeders.
