What is a habit? Habits of people, bad habits of children

What is a habit? This word came from the English "habit". In translation, it means an automatic formed type of a particular behavior.

What is a habit in its essence? This is some kind of program that is embedded in a person and works at the subconscious level. The proverb says that habit is second nature. And this has its own explanation. Think about it, because the overwhelming number of actions is performed by us automatically. In other words, out of habit. The same action that a person repeats every day, is absorbed by him and passes into the control of the subconscious. In this case, consciousness is freed from control over it.

Bad habits. Classification

Habits of people are divided into certain types. They can be professional and domestic, social and individual, arising gradually or instantly. In the psychological sphere, too, there is a differentiation of this concept. Here habits are divided into emotional and physical, as well as behavioral.

a brief description of

An example of a professional habit can be the action of a locksmith, who daily wipes his machine after work. In the domestic sphere it is washing hands before eating. Social habits - this is a certain social structure, which is adopted precisely in this society. At the same time they are the cultural norm. Individual habits, that is, belonging personally to someone, serve as a certain reserve for social. They will change their category in the event that they are noticed by society and claimed in it. So, for example, business acumen and initiative in former times were punishable. At the present time it has become very revered, having entered the category of the social self. There are many examples of this. So, an initiative person is considered a person more wealthy in the social plan.

Individual habits are conditionally divided into harmful and useful. Some people have a disastrous system of behavior. They smoke and scatter things around the apartment, they dine in front of the television screen and like to postpone business for later. This is a vast topic. Harmful habits do not benefit from the position of public good. They are detrimental to the health of the person himself, and sometimes to others.

What is a useful habit? This means, for example, in time to go to bed, get up early, take care of others and live with a feeling of love.

As a rule, habits appear in a certain period. However, a variety of such subconscious actions can also be attributed to instantly arising different states or reactions.

What is a physical habit? This, for example, is the desire to gnaw nails or crackle your fingers. An example of emotional automatic actions can be calls to a young man, although consciousness suggests that this should not be done. To go to school or work by the same route is considered a behavioral habit.

Significance in a person's life

For today, there are violent rhythms and endless cycles of events. In order for a modern person to adapt to the ever-growing dynamics of everyday life, habits are needed. Only lazy people did not try to control their automatic actions in any way. Man is biosocial. And on what skills and habits he has formed, the social component has a great influence. If there is a need to adapt to the environment, the mind will find how to do it. Thus, a new habit appears. In other words, the surrounding circumstances dictate certain conditions of behavior and force them to develop automatic skills.

What is a habit in a person's life? This is one of the most important characteristics of his personality. And this has its own explanation. From the habit develops a character, which, in turn, affects fate. Automatic actions that are performed by a person at the subconscious level can be both his friends and enemies. That is why everyone should follow his habits very carefully. Bad, unfortunately, stick themselves. Good ones only appear under certain conditions.

Fastening

According to psychologists, the appearance of a habit occurs on the twenty-first day. One of the conditions for its formation is the daily repetition of certain actions. If you decide to develop a useful habit in your life, and after three weeks it did not arise, you should not despair. Success will come when you try again.

Formation conditions

In order for a person to develop a habit, the first thing to do is to attract attention, "hook", and then interest him. This creates confidence and the feeling that he can do it. It is worth remembering that a less-than-useful occupation is the weaning of a person from addictions. The task in this case must be formulated differently. This should not be a fight with bad skills, but the development of new, useful ones.

A person must necessarily understand the meaning of a useful habit. At the same time, new automatic actions should fit well into his lifestyle, and also be supported by close people. In the event that a person is attentive to himself, he will not allow him to develop addictions.

Forming automatic actions in children

A great joy for the whole family is the birth of a child. For each of the parents a small miracle is the most unique and wonderful. However, over time, when a child grows up, he has his own habits. However, some of them are not very good. The most common children's bad habits are nibbling and thumb sucking, torsion or pulling of hair, and picking in the nose.

Causes of appearance

Harmful habits in children can arise from the unconscious desire of the baby to imitate someone. That is why people close to the child should closely monitor their actions. This will not give an occasion for your loved one to copy nail biting or picking at the nose of an adult.

Children's psychologists explain one more reason for the appearance of bad habits in children. It lies in the lack of attention to the child, which he feels in his family. For example, a baby for a long time left alone, early weaned, rarely picked up. The child is bored, uncomfortable and even frightened. A crumb must somehow calm down. As compensation and comfort, he pulls his ear, sucks a finger or picks his navel. By such ritual actions the child is accustomed to calming himself. Gradually everything goes into the category of bad habits. And if immediately these actions are comforting in my mother's absence, then later they become interesting to him even if the parents are nearby.

Methods of struggle

It is worth saying that prohibiting any action to the child, to achieve a positive result is impossible. Punishment will not help here either. Getting rid of bad habits is not an easy task. Parents should have patience to convincingly prove to the child that under the fingernails there are a lot of germs and dirt that get into his mouth if he gnaws at the nails. To small children it is possible to tell a fairy tale about fingers-brothers. The girl should be inspired by the fact that women's hands should be well-groomed and beautiful. It makes no sense to scold the child's sucking finger. It should be distracted by interesting games and activities. The crumbs can be easily cuddled.

Whatever it was, the basis of all harmful childhood habits are problems of a psychological nature. Combating them is the elimination of the child's insecurity and anxiety. It is important that the atmosphere in the house is peaceful and friendly, then any adversity will be overcome.
