Underarm lymphadenitis: causes, symptoms and treatments

Lymphadenitis underarm is a disease accompanied by inflammation of the lymph nodes located in the axillary region. It is worth noting that such a disease requires medical attention, since otherwise it can be festering both the node itself and the surrounding tissues.

Underarm lymphadenitis: causes

It's not a secret for anyone that the human lymphatic system is primarily responsible for protecting against pathogenic bacteria, fungi and viruses. Therefore, most often lymphadenitis underarm is the result of the activity of a particular type of infection.

As a rule, inflammation of the lymph nodes appears against the background of diseases of the respiratory system, including tonsillitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, tuberculosis. By the way, carious teeth can also be a source of infection.

Much less often pathogenic microorganisms get directly into the lymph nodes. Often, infection occurs when there are scratches, wounds and scuffs on the skin of the armpits. Sometimes the inflammatory process occurs after a severe trauma to the lymph node.

At the initial stages of the disease, the clinical picture may not be too clear. Sick people notice only mild discomfort during the movements of the hands. The enlarged lymph node can be palpated independently - it is slightly enlarged and hard to the touch.

In the absence of therapy, the disease turns into a serous form, which is accompanied by a further development of the inflammatory process and accumulation of a serous fluid within the affected node. At the same time, the skin in the axillary region swells and acquires a reddish shade, and it is already impossible to probe the lymph node. The surface of the skin is hot to the touch, and every movement is given a strong pain.

In the future, a purulent process may occur. With a similar condition, the inflammatory process also spreads to neighboring tissues, affecting the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Often, under the patient's skin, you can notice large abscesses. Lymphadenitis underarm is accompanied by severe pain, fever, general weakness, lack of appetite.

The accumulation of pus is fraught with dangerous complications, in particular, the formation of fistula. That is why it is so important to seek medical help on time.

Underarm lymphadenitis: treatment methods

Undoubtedly, the treatment scheme in this case depends on the severity of the disease. Mild inflammation, as a rule, is treated with antibiotics of a wide spectrum. In addition, it is extremely important to detect and the primary source of infection, as its elimination will help to get rid of lymphadenitis faster and prevent further complications.

Serous form also means taking antibiotics. In addition, during the treatment, special anti-inflammatory drugs are used. For example, experts recommend regular cold compresses with decoctions of medicinal herbs or Vishnevsky ointment.

Sometimes lymphadenitis underarm requires surgical intervention. In particular, the operation is performed in the presence of large abscesses and reduces to purifying tissues from purulent masses.
