"Ultracaine" in pregnancy, its contraindications

Pharmacological properties and indications for use

The drug "Ultrakain" is used in operations on the bone or mucous membrane, mainly in dentistry, when there is an urgent need to remove or treat the teeth under anesthesia. Its action occurs 1-2 minutes after the administration. The effect lasts from 1 to 3 hours. The drug has a weak toxicity, the cardiac system is almost not affected, so it can be used even for patients with a high risk group. How to administer "Ultracaine" depends on the type of anesthesia. Intravenous administration is not recommended. The dose of the drug depends on the duration and severity of the surgical intervention. The maximum single dose is from 5 to 6 mg per kilogram of weight.

The drug "Ultrakain" in pregnancy and lactation

The drug can penetrate the placenta, so when it is pregnant it is used in case of acute need. It is preferable to use a variety of "Ultracaine D-C". A breastfeeding mother should be fed at least four hours after the drug is administered.

Cases when you can go to the dentist during pregnancy:

- dental manipulations for the treatment of dental caries;

- Periodontal surgery;

- tooth extraction;

- treatment of inflamed gums;

- installation of brackets.

In which cases it is better to refrain from visiting the dentist during pregnancy :

- Prosthetics of teeth;

- dental implantation;

- procedures for removing tartar.

Contraindications

Anesthetic "Ultrakain" during pregnancy is not recommended for tachycardia and tachyarrhythmia, acute heart failure, severe arterial hypertension, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, bronchial asthma, and also hypersensitivity of the patient to this drug. With great care, you can use it for pregnant women suffering from diabetes mellitus, blood clotting disorders, severe kidney and liver diseases, disorders of cerebral circulation, cardiovascular diseases, chronic bronchitis, etc.

Side effects

The drug "Ultrakain" during pregnancy, like any medicine, has a number of side effects. After its application, reddening of the skin and itching, rhinitis or conjunctivitis, hives, swelling, breathing difficulties, etc., may appear.

Overdose

Anesthetic "Ultrakain" during pregnancy is used in extreme cases, and its overdose is dangerous for a woman's life. There may be nausea and vomiting, difficulty breathing until it stops, loss of consciousness, twitching and muscle spasms, cramps, shock and even cardiac arrest. With such symptoms, intravenous glucocorticoids and plasma-substituting and electrolyte solutions are administered. The phenomena of tachyarrhythmia and tachycardia can be eliminated with the help of antiarrhythmic drugs. At increased arterial pressure, it is better to resort to the help of peripheral vasodilators.
