Truck UAZ 300: specifications

The car for the national economy and industry UAZ 300 is a new post-war truck manufactured by the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant in 1949 as an experienced and promising model. From other Soviet colleagues, he was distinguished by an interesting and accurate design of the cabin, the original shape and placement of the wings and hood.

General information

In the rest, the vehicle was completed with the details produced by the Soviet automobile industry at that time. As a result, the truck of the new formation was equipped with a gasoline four-cylinder power unit, a power of 50 horsepower and a four-speed gearbox, which he inherited from GAZ.

Historical facts

After the war, industrialization was actively carried out in the USSR, cars were needed to transport various cargoes, components for the construction of mills, roads and industrial facilities. For the transport of goods from 0.5 to 1 tonne of suitable machines of domestic production was not. This niche was supposed to occupy UAZ 300. The development of the car involved a whole design team, in which each was responsible for a particular system or node.

In order to speed up the process of creating a light truck, it was decided to bundle it with some parts from existing production cars. As a result, the car was equipped with an engine from the car "Victory", and the suspension came from a truck of the Yaroslavl Combine YaAZ-200.

The Ulyanovsk plant lacked high-precision equipment, which allows one hundred percent to realize the interesting ideas of the UAZ 300 developers. For this reason, the gearbox was assembled at the Gorky plant. The first pancake was a lump, because because of the haste of delivery of the object on time, neither the manufacturers of the checkpoint, nor the workers in Ulyanovsk, did not find the shavings in the gearbox. As a result, it jammed, had to shoot and sort out the node. Re-testing was more successful, and on November 7, 49-year-old handsome new generation went to the demonstration.

Main characteristics

UAZ 300, a truck that did not go into mass production. The design group was disbanded, and the plant started producing other cars. The car had a streamlined hood and radiator lining, the wings were appropriately combined with the all-metal cabin of the GAZ-51 type, which came to replace the wooden variation of GAZ-MM.

Main technical characteristics:

  • Power plant - gasoline engine with four cylinders, in-line, carburetor.
  • Power of the UAZ 300 (hp) - 50.
  • The gearshift is a four-speed manual gearbox.
  • Suspension unit - front and rear of the spring type.
  • Carrying capacity (t) - up to 1,5.
  • Weight (t) - 1.
  • Type of fuel - gasoline A-66.
  • The wheels are front and rear of the same type.

In total, six models were presented for public viewing, the first two of which were presented for the anniversaries of the November revolution.

Modifications

The predecessor of the UAZ 300, whose characteristic allows it to be classified as light trucks, can be considered the experimental sample UL'SIS NATI-253. This vehicle was developed in 1944. The truck was created and prepared for release in accordance with the contract concluded by the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant and the American concern General Motors.

The car was equipped with a two-stroke diesel engine with a capacity of 83 horses. An experienced specimen should have been favorably distinguished not only by the design of the cockpit, the hood and the wings, but also by a more modern layout. In fact, the vast majority of aggregates and parts were simply borrowed from imported analogues, a small part of the parts was produced at the NATI plant.

Shortly after the release of the first UAZ 300, a modification was developed under the index 302. Its carrying capacity was 1.5 tons. Also, the car was equipped with a reinforced frame and gable rear wheels. Despite a successful test of both variations, the plant did not have enough production facilities to launch these trucks into the series.

Test Drive

Truck UAZ 300 road tests for the first time was held in late 1950, along with his weighted "brother" under the index of 302. Both models proved to be excellent in various indicators. Did not fall behind them and the third variation - GAZ-MM. All modifications of the test have withstood with dignity. In the following year, grandiose plans were built for the completion of the final refinement of the machines.

But far-reaching ideas were not destined to come true. In order No. 297 of 03.07.1951 it was noted that the design department was to be disbanded. The Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union issued a decree according to which the Ulyanovsk plant was reoriented to the production of radar stations (radar stations).

It was not destiny for the considered machine to become a serial unit. Regarding the plant itself, then after some period it returned to the production of cars (in 1954). But now it's completely different developments. Among them, a special place is occupied by representatives of the GAZ-69 brand.

Design group

The team of developers was headed by the chief designer M. I. Kozakov. Each engineer was responsible for the design and development of a specific node or circuit. For example, IF Safinov was responsible for designing the braking unit, the steering control was under the supervision of engineer VA Lisov. At the same time, two designers simultaneously worked together: I. Kh. Pakhter and V. S. Menchov.

Designers UAZ 300, the engine that got from the serial car "Victory", wanted to create a unique truck, different from other analogues. For this purpose, the model was made at the Gorky Automobile Plant at its own discretion. However, all the same, they accepted the external appearance proposed by the Ulyanovsk employees: Ermilov, Bogdanovich, Starostin and Khlipkov. After the approval of the project, the design team and workers of the plant faced the task in the spirit of the Soviet era - to make a car for the celebration of the day of the revolution.

Completion

Despite the post-war hard times, automotive designers have found ways and means to develop new cars. And, at that time, they did it well. Another thing is that there were not enough original spare parts and production capacities, in connection with which, many projects were closed or frozen.

Before the developers had the task to update and upgrade the standard "lorry", and they coped with their task perfectly, given the available opportunities. If we compare the power of UAZ 300 (hp in 50 units), it can be noted that on such a truck it was possible to transport goods of the order of 1000-1200 kilograms, and on the upgraded version of UAZ 302 - up to one and a half tons. Serial production of these models could make a significant contribution to the development of the national economy, but this did not happen.
