Treatment of cats from ear mites

Otodecosis (ear mite) is an invasive disease of cats, dogs and some other animals. Most often, the disease occurs in young cats aged from one and a half months to a year, but also adult animals can suffer from it. Cats are infected with an ear mite from sick animals, sometimes from a human. For people, ear mites are not dangerous, but they can carry parasites on clothes.

Than ear mite is dangerous

To detect the disease is simple - the ear mite slices the upper layer of the epidermis, from the damaged areas a brown liquid is released, which when dried, forms crusts - they are clearly visible in the ear. Also, the sick animal becomes nervous, combs its ears - this should alert. Subsequently, the crusts form a plug in the ear canal. If the disease is not treated, the tympanic membrane is broken, the inflammatory process passes into the middle and inner ear. Then the inflammation strikes the brain, as a result of which the animal dies. Therefore, treatment for cats from ear mites should begin immediately after the detection of symptoms of the disease.

Treatment of Otodecosis

First of all, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the ear of the animal with an antiseptic, for example, chlorhexidine.

Rid of a cat from ticks can be liquid medications that need to be injected with a syringe with a rubber tube. After bent in half, the auricle should be massaged with light movements. Such means include such drops as "Amatrizin", "Aurikan".

You can also use ointments, to apply them to the inner surface of the ear should be used cotton swabs.

In veterinary medicine, aerosol preparations are used to treat ear mites: "Prosoptol", "Tsiodrin", "Dermatozol", "Akrodex". They need to be sprayed for a couple of seconds at a distance of 5 cm from the ear. Lack of aerosol preparations - they are difficult to find in pet stores.

If the ear mite was found in kittens, then drugs should be selected that are not contraindicated to young animals-for example, Iwomek. The medicine must be administered subcutaneously with the calculation of 200 μg per 1 kg of weight.

For pregnant cats, most drugs do not work. Veterinarians advise in this situation to regularly clean the ears of the cat and drip them with camphor oil. You can use drops applied to the withers - for example, "Advocate", "Promeris". Effective are the drops of SPOT ON from Front Line, they are also dripped onto the withers, but they are contraindicated for kittens up to eight weeks.

Regardless of which type of treatment was chosen, it should be carried out in three stages, the break between which should be five days - this is due to the life cycle of the ear mite.

In order to prevent disease, you need to protect cats from contact with stray animals, periodically clean your ears with special means, such as "Otifri".

If you had to face an ear mite for the first time, it is better to contact a veterinarian - do not risk your pet's health.
