History of the theater

The Volkov Theater, whose history dates back to the XVIII century, began its creative career as a small group of amateur actors. The organizer, decorator, artist, director and so on was the son of a wealthy merchant F. Volkov.

After Fedor Grigorevich left with his troupe to St. Petersburg at the invitation of the empress, the business that he started continued to develop.

In the 19 th century, the Theater. Volkova (then it was called otherwise) was considered one of the best provincial temples of art. Here many great artists began their creative path: L. Sobinov, L. Kositskaya, P. Strepetova, I. Moskvin and others. On a tour to Yaroslavl, M. Shchepkin and K. Stanislavsky often came.

The first theatrical season of the 20th century coincided with the anniversary of the theater. Celebrations dedicated to this event were given an all-Russian scale. The best artists of Moscow and St. Petersburg were invited to the jubilee.

In 1911 the Yaroslavl drama received a new building. At the same time, the theater was given the name of the founder, professional actor of Russia F. Volkov.

Building

The Volkov Theater (Yaroslavl) bears the name of an outstanding artist who lived in the distant 18th century. Fedor Grigorievich was a universal man. He combined a large number of talents. He was an actor, musician, architect, woodcarver, poet, collector of rare books, painter, stage machinist, sculptor, director, director and founder of the first professional theater in Russia.

Fedor Grigorievich was a merchant's son. In 1750 in the city of Yaroslavl he organized an amateur theater. F. Volkov kept his offspring himself, investing his own capitals. In his troupe people of different professions and occupation were playing.
