Theater (Penza): about the theater, repertoire, troupe

Drama Theater (Penza) is very popular with residents and visitors of the city. His repertoire is rich and varied. The troupe often goes on tour.

About the theater

The theater (Penza) goes back to the amateur representations of the 18th century. They were played out in fairgrounds at fairs. Then there was a period of serf theaters and government. The first professional actors appeared in the troupes of the city in 1796.

The twentieth century with its own realities has repeatedly brought changes to the life of the theater and its repertoire. First there was the First World War, then the Revolution and the Great Patriotic War.

In the postwar years, the theater (Penza) became very popular. In the 50's and 60's, the troupe began to tour and take part in festivals.

Since 2007, the main director is Vyacheslav Gunin.

In 2008, the building of the theater suffered from a fire. All the scenery, costumes, equipment and interior spaces were destroyed. In 2010, the construction of a new theater building was completed. In the same year, S.V. Kazakov, and for the post of director was appointed AV. Fomin. The troupe replenished with young staff. Children's performances appeared in the repertoire of the theater in 2011.

In May 2014 at the festival named after N.Kh. Rybakova in Tambov actress of the Penza drama Galina Evgenievna Repnaya was awarded the "Actress of Russia" prize. The award was awarded to her for the role of Arina Petrovna in the production of "Lord Golovleva." Actor Nikolai Shapovalov was awarded a special jury prize. He was awarded for the role of Petenka in the same performance.

The most notable premieres of the last two seasons are "Cat in Boots", "Glass Menagerie" and "Monsieur Amilcar".

In 2014, the theater toured various cities in Israel. The public of this country was shown performances "Hero of Our Time", "Divas". The troupe visited such cities of Israel as Rishon Lezion, Ashdod, Jerusalem, etc.
