Change of style

The Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater was to become the pearl of the USSR. But not everything went smoothly. The fact is that the building was designed in the style of constructivism. It is characterized by:

The Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater was already built by a third, when changes were made to its project. All technical innovations were abolished. Major repairs, reconstruction, restoration

The first years of independent Russia were difficult for the Novosibirsk Opera. In the mid-1980s, the theater was rebuilt. It was planned to implement it in two years. Nobody could imagine then that more than a decade would be needed to complete the renovation of the building . Completed reconstruction was already in the early 21st century, in the new state.

Huge difficulties are associated with repairing the dome. During the construction period, this unique structure was manually covered with metal scales. At the end of the 20th century, specialists unable to implement it again were not found in the country.

Another important problem was related to the improvement of scenic conditions. Architects of the early 20th century, fascinated by grandiose ideas about the multifunctionality of the structure, forgot that they are building an opera house. Therefore, the acoustics of the stage and the hall was, to put it mildly, imperfect. The problem was also the location of the lighting systems. Without going into technical details, we should note that all this did not allow to bring the theater to the world level, excluding the tour of "stars" of the first magnitude. But fortunately, the problems were solved.

Pearls of the scene

The Novosibirsk Opera House, the poster of which is decorated with masterpieces of world classical music, demonstrates the variety of artistic preferences of the audience. Here you can see traditional productions, such as Verdi's La Traviata and Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades. On the ballet stage go "Giselle" Adana, "La Bayadere" Minkus, "Swan Lake" and "The Nutcracker".

The Novosibirsk Opera House, whose repertoire includes non-standard productions, is known for the recent big scandal. Director of the play "Tannhauser" (music by Wagner) was accused of insulting the feelings of believers. A few years before, under strange circumstances, the theater director had died.

The Novosibirsk Coliseum (so often called this institution) offers performances to the public for children. There are a lot of them in the repertoire. Children's operas and ballets attract the youngest spectators to the theater.
