The younger generation: do we have a future?

Young generation in a specific social group began to be allocated not so long ago. She is either believed to have excessive hopes or is scolded, predicting the destruction of the centuries-old way of life from her hand. But these are only arguments from the realm of morality.

What, in fact, is the youth?

Youth as the vanguard of society

For the first time, the anthropologist Margaret Mead spoke of the revolutionary role of youth in society. The scientist noticed that in the middle of the twentieth century the youth ceased to play the role of a pupil. Young men and girls began to perform the function of a "social bulldozer": they cleared the way to change.

The young generation of the 1960s in the United States is a generation of nonconformists. They denied the outdated morals of the states, racial and class prejudices, ostentatious religiosity. All these vices in the society of the future should not exist. It is this generation that created the phenomenon of counterculture.

In the middle of the twentieth century, the old conservative generation of Americans saw youth as a threat to their existence. The newspapers were full of "sensational" articles about the shocking behavior of the hippies. Mass arrests were conducted at anti-war rallies. All the forces of a conservative society were thrown to save it.

A spoon of tar

The significance of the younger generation is not always progressive. In the last century, American boys and girls achieved softening of violent racist laws, stopped the war in Vietnam, abolished military service. But in general, the struggle with the old society was lost.

The modern young generation in the post-Soviet space of its struggle did not even begin. Culturally, these people even lose to their fathers and mothers. The decline in the level of education, economic problems and, as a consequence, the generalized infantilization of the generation - all this creates a portrait of the "future" society.

The big problem is a significant shift to the right of young people. Radicalization occurs not only in the subcultural environment. Street fans have long attracted the attention of even law enforcement. The fact is that contempt for emigrants, "heterodox" (especially Muslims) under the influence of the media becomes socially acceptable.

Together with social and economic problems, this gives impetus to the development of extremist organizations.

Who is to blame and what to do?

To blame for the fact that the younger generation is not the same today, we need first of all educators - parents, grandmothers, grandfathers and the whole society. First of all, you need to think, but did they have a chance to grow up by others?

Of course, the conditions of modern youth are better than those of children who grew up in the 90's. But other problems have not gone away. Zero quality of education, often unfavorable conditions in the family, the influence of low mass culture - all this affected the modern appearance of boys and girls.

The role and significance of the younger generation was expressed long ago by Margaret Mead. Young people should become the same bulldozer, which will clear the way to the future, in which there will be no exploitation, no alienation, no other problems. Just need to give young people a chance.

Is there any reason for panic?

Most researchers argue that to be afraid of times when the modern young generation will decide the destiny of the state, it is not worth it. Even in ancient times it was customary to scold children for misconduct and the destruction of the foundations of society.

Just look around. The last years can be called, rather, the time of destruction, than the time of creation. It is unlikely that modern youth will be even worse ...
