The screen version of Dostoevsky's novel "Idiot": actors and roles

"Idiot" - one of the best and most profound works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Cinematographers have repeatedly turned to the work of the great Russian writer. Many times the novel "The Idiot" was screened. Actors and roles in foreign and Russian films based on Dostoevsky's book are the subject of the article.

The film of Peter Chardynin

In 1910 the premiere of the first adaptation of the novel "Idiot" was held. The actors who have played in this film are Lyubov Varyagina, Andrei Gromov, Pavel Biryukov, Arseniy Bibikov, Antonina Pozharsky. The short picture of Chardynin consists of only ten scenes. The first shows a rushing train, in one of the carriages of which the heroes of Dostoevsky are sent to the capital. In the second - the scene of Myshkin's acquaintance with Rogozhin. Then only the key points in the plot of the novel are shown. The director singled out fragments from the book, like Rogozhin's attempt to kill the prince, Myshkin's walks with Aglaya along the Neva, Nastasya's escape from the church.

And in the final scene - the last meeting of the prince with Rogozhin, which occurred after the murder of Nastasya Filippovna.

The film by Ivan Pyreev

This film was to consist of two series. But the second part has not been removed. Why was not the film "Idiot" (1958) completed? The actors who played in this film adaptation - Yuri Yakovlev, Yulia Borisova, Nikita Podgorny. The picture was awarded positive reviews of film critics. But only the first part. From filming, the second performer refused the main role. Yury Yakovlev so got used to the image of Prince Myshkin, that for a long time he was in a serious mental state. Ivan Pyryev, in turn, refused to invite another actor.

"Crazy Love"

The film, created by Andrzej Жуulawski, is also based on Dostoevsky's book The Idiot. Actors, who have performed the main roles, are the stars of French cinema Sophie Marceau and Francis Juster. However, the action of this film is not in Russia in the nineteenth century, but in France in the twentieth century. The director of the film said that such a bold interpretation of the famous story was created in order to pay tribute to the great Russian classics.

Nastasya

In 1994, the Polish director Andrzej Wajda created, perhaps, the most unusual adaptation of the novel "Idiot". Actors who performed the heroes of Dostoevsky, Bando Tamasaburo, Toshiyuki Nagashima. It is noteworthy that in the film the roles of Myshkin and Nastasya Filippovna were played by the same artist. And Bando Tamasaburo had no doubt that he could create a female image on the screen. But the role of the prince caused the actor awe. The thing is that Bando Tamasaburo for thirty years played exclusively women.

Painting by Vladimir Bortko

In 2002, the Russian screen was released multi-series film "The Idiot." Actors brilliantly played the role of complex, contradictory characters Dostoevsky. This film adaptation is by far the best. The winners of the TV film "Idiot" were awarded with TEFI and "Golden Eagle" awards. Actors and roles:

  1. Yevgeny Mironov (Prince Myshkin).
  2. Lidia Velezheva (Nastasya Filippovna).
  3. Vladimir Mashkov (Rogozhin).

The success of Vladimir Bortko's series is explained by talented director's work and star cast. The film was played by such artists as Inna Churikova, Vladimir Ilyin, Oleg Basilashvili, Mikhail Boyarsky, Alexander Lazarev, Larisa Malevannaya.

In Bortko's painting, the spirit of Russia of the middle of the nineteenth century was transmitted as much as possible. The director was extremely sensitive to Dostoevsky's texts. Individual actors have reproduced the dialogue in full accordance with the literary source.

Other screen versions

In 1951, Japanese filmmakers took on Dostoevsky's imperishable novel. However, when writing the script, they did not use names that were not sound for the ears of compatriots. And because Rogozhin became Denkiti Akamo, Myshkin - Kameda. The film, of course, takes place in Japan. The plot of the novel was otherwise preserved.

In 2001, Russian director Roman Kachanov created a parody film for Dostoevsky's book. The interpretation of the classical work was so bold that it caused more negative reviews than positive ones. Fyodor Bondarchuk in the film "Down House" played an eccentric prince. Ivan Okhlobystin - Rogozhin. The action takes place in the nineties of the twentieth century. All the realities of this difficult period in the history of Russia are represented. In a satirical form, Moscow society is shown with the "new Russians" present in it.
