In 1547 Peter and Fevronia of Murom, whose history simply shakes, were canonized. Today, their holy relics are kept in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in the Holy Trinity Monastery of Murom.

Indeed the city of Murom is rich in various epic heroes. Everyone perfectly remembers the hero Ilya of Murom, but few know that his holy relics are kept in the funerary caves of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

Poetic story

The love story of Saint Peter and Fevronia has existed for many centuries on the land of Murom. Over time, the true story of these faithful and reverend miracle-workers overgrew with fabulous outlines that blended with the parables and legends of this land. Today in Murom there is cancer with the relics of the married couple of Saint Peter and Fevronia, and pilgrims come to them from everywhere to pay tribute to their memory, ask for help and pray.

The story of the life of the faithful Peter and Fevronia was written by the priest Ermolai Pregreshny - a brilliant writer who lived in the era of John the Terrible. The history of Peter and Fevronia in the original interpretation of the writer acquired the colors of folk folklore and became a poetic story of love and wisdom that are given only to the pure heart of God and the Holy Spirit.

About love and fidelity

This amazing story of Peter and Fevronia began at a time when Prince Paul was ruling the Russian land in the city of Murom. And he had a beautiful wife, to whom the devil, in his dislike and hatred of the human race, began to send a winged serpent to fornication. Using his unclean magical powers, he appeared before her in the guise of a prince. This obsession the wife did not hide from her husband and said that the cunning serpent had mastered it with cunning. The frustrated prince did not know how to deal with the villain of darkness. However, he commanded his wife, with flattering speeches, to find out from the crafty tempter about whether he knows what death will come to him. When the serpent came to see her again, the princess found out from him that his death was prepared from the shoulder of Petrov and Agrikov's sword.

Savior Peter

She immediately told Prince Paul about all this. The same called to his own brother Peter and began to share his thoughts with him. Peter immediately realized that it was he who was destined to kill the snake. However, he was really embarrassed only because he did not have the Agricova sword.

But at that time Peter was in complete loneliness to walk around churches and pray. Once he was in a women's monastery, in the temple of the Exaltation of the Honorable and Life-giving Cross of the Lord, and a young boy approached him, who told the prince that he knew where the treasured weapon was hidden. And, bringing Peter to the altar wall, he pointed to the place between the slabs where Agrikov's sword lay. Peter took it and went to his brother to tell him about everything and consider the plan for the following actions.

And when Peter came to Brother Paul, and then went to his daughter-in-law to express his respect, he noticed that Prince Paul was in some incredible way immediately in two places, in his own room and with his wife. Peter immediately understood the cunning of the serpent in his reincarnation and, of course, not without God's help killed a monster.

Introduction to Fevronia

But the story of Peter and Fevronia did not end there. After the blows of the sword, the serpent took his real brutal appearance, fluttered and died, splashing with his blood Prince Pyotr. From this the whole prince was covered with fetid scabs, his body was covered with terrible ulcers. Since that time, all the confidants have gone astray, they have been looking for doctors around the world, but none have taken up his treatment.

One day one of his youths went to the Ryazan lands, where there were many folk healers, and found himself in a small village called Laskovo, where he met a very wise young maiden named Fevronia. She promised to cure Prince Peter if he was sincere and humble in his thoughts. And she commanded him to be brought to her.

When the prince came to Fevronya, he began to promise her a huge reward. But she told him that he would cure him if he took her as his wife. And the prince squeaked, promising for the healing to take her as his wife. Then the girl scooped up a bowl of bread sourdough, then blew on it and ordered the prince to drown the bath and anoint his sick body with it, but only so that one scab remained unbroken.

Peter did everything and the disease immediately receded. However, the prince did not hurry to fulfill the main condition and soon again all was covered with ulcers. Then he still had to marry Fevronia. After that, they left for Murom and began to live there according to God's commandments.

Go away to return

After the death of Prince Paul, his brother Peter took the post of ruler of the city. But the boyars disliked the princess and once, after drinking wine for courage, they came to her and asked her to take whatever her soul wished, and leave their city. But she did not take the riches, but asked one - to give her her pious Peter.

The boyars were even delighted with this turn of affairs, for in the soul everyone dreamed of taking the throne of the prince. Well, it's decided - it's decided. The pious Prince Peter did not violate the laws of God and wished to depart with his wife. They sat in the boat and sailed along the Oka River. The defender did not leave them in trouble. Adhering to one shore, they stopped for the night. Immediately the grandees from Murom appeared and tearfully asked them to return, as the struggle for power led to strife and death between the boyars.

Blessed Peter and Fevronia returned with great humility to the city of Murom and began to reign there long and happily. When they were old, they decided to take a vow of monasticism, and when they were tonsured they received the names of David and Euphrosyne. And then together they began to pray to the Lord that He would send them death at one time. A pious couple wanted to be buried together. There was even in advance prepared a special coffin for two with a partition in the middle. But after their death in their cells, people found it wicked to bury the monks in one coffin and did not fulfill the will of the deceased. Their bodies were left twice in different temples, but in the morning they always somehow miraculously appeared together in one coffin. Then it was decided to bury them together.

This is how Peter and Fevronia of Murom, whose love story deserves respect and recognition, have become patrons of the family, love and loyalty. And now every believer can come to Murom Holy Trinity Convent to worship their holy relics.

Many Orthodox help Peter and Fevronia of Murom. The history of eternal love will forever remain in the heart of everyone who could ever hear or read it.
