Birds of the Red Book of Russia. Flight of Hope

Unfortunately, some Russian animals, including birds, are now on the verge of extinction. In this connection, the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 1963 decided to create a so-called Red Book, which consists of an annotated list of relict animals, as well as plants and mushrooms. And the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation issued its own edition. So, in this article we are interested in birds of the Red Book of Russia.

Golden eagles are the largest eagles in the world!

The golden eagle is, perhaps, one of the most famous birds of prey, representing a family of hawkish birds. In addition, they are the largest eagles in the world. Unfortunately, they are "famous" not only for their popularity, but also for their small number ... The Golden Eagles are the birds of prey of the Red Book of Russia.

Recently, golden eagles have disappeared from many regions of our country, where they had previously inhabited the beginning of the 20th century. The reasons for this - mass destruction of birds by humans, urbanization of land for various economic needs. It is curious that the World Conservation Union does not consider these predators as a species on the verge of total extinction.

"Flight of Hope". Sterkhi

In some cases, the birds of the Red Book of Russia are the only animals in the world. For example, such are the Siberian Cranes, or white cranes. They occur in the lower reaches of the Ob, in Western Siberia, in Yakutia, as well as in the interfluves of Kolyma, Alazey and Yana. Now their number is about 3000 individuals.

Unfortunately, the population of West Siberian white cranes reduced to 20 individuals, which, of course, puts them on the brink of complete extinction. Efforts to conserve the numbers of Siberian Cranes were undertaken in the 1970s. In 2006, ornithologists and other scientists built 5 modern trikes, with which you could send the Siberian Cranes to a long flight.

Motor-hang-gliders are original "leaders" of flocks, behind which white cranes follow. Then these birds turned out to be brought from Yamal to Uzbekistan. There they were able to join the wild gray cranes, having gone with them for the winter.

The same attempt was made in 2012 and was held with the personal participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The flock, consisting of 6 Siberian Cranes, was again reduced to their gray relatives, but they did not accept them at the last moment.

Birds of the Red Book of Russia. Owl

Filins can by nature be both nomadic and sedentary birds. You can meet them in the Russian forests and fields, in the steppes and mountains. They prefer to nest in the deserted and deaf forest areas. Unfortunately, by the end of the 20th century, the number of owls in Russia sharply decreased. Now they are birds of the Red Book of Russia. In this regard, for them, sanctuaries and reserves were created, where a whole range of measures aimed at protecting these birds is carried out.

Ussuri Cranes: relict birds

The Red Book of Russia (photo book is presented below) includes not only small but also relic species of birds. These include, for example, Ussuri cranes. Their second name is Japanese, or Manchurian cranes.

These are the largest representatives among all the cranes that exist in the world today. Their home is the Far East. The white crane is widely distributed in the open spaces of the Khankan lowland, in the valleys of the rivers of Primorye, and also in the south of the Khabarovsk Territory.

In connection with the permanent settlement of individual Far Eastern regions, drainage of local marshes and plowing of land, the white cranes generally turned into a relic species. Unfortunately, now it is extremely rare to meet them in nature, and the information on nesting places of these feathered giants in the Far East is disappointing.
