Tapestry - a special fabric

Tapestry - a fabric made by hand, dense type, with patterns on it. It produces very beautiful woven paintings, upholstery for furniture items, various rugs, from which you can sew a strong and comfortable bag.

Tapestry (fabric): description and fabrication

In order to make a tapestry fabric, we need a loom for weaving, multi-colored threads and, of course, the artistry of the weaver. Also for these purposes you need to stock up a frame of wood, thread of wool and flax, a regular dining room with a fork and scissors. Now you can try to make a tapestry - the fabric is beautiful and useful. First, it is necessary to make a frame made of wood, which will serve you as a primitive loom. Dimensions of the frame must correspond to the future dimensions of the fabric. To do this, you need to expand the width of the tapestry by three, and length by two. Example: the size of the product is three hundred by three hundred millimeters, so the frame should have a size of nine hundred by six hundred millimeters.

Tapestry: fabric and base for it

Further, the preparation of a base, which is a thread stretched in an upright position, is required. For this purpose, yarn from flax is used, for the reason that it does not stretch and has sufficient strength. The number of rows of threads (basis density) has a hollow dependence on the thickness of transverse threads, which are termed ducks. The thinner the transverse thread, the greater the density of thread strings in the base. If we take the average thickness of the weft, then ten threads of about ten millimeters of the base are approximately necessary.

Then you should select the long side of the wooden frame and wrap it with threads according to the coil principle. In this case, it should be borne in mind that the base in its length should be identical to the size of the future tapestry. It is not necessary to tighten the base very tightly, and the spacing between the filaments is two to four millimeters, since the finger's stroke should be free. Before weaving a tapestry pattern, you need to make a profit, which is then bent to the ends of the frame or it is sewn to the wrong side. For this purpose, you need to tie a thread from flax to the edge of the warp thread and, with a single hand, take a sample of even warp threads, with a free hand, pass the earnings between them. Having reached the extreme warp thread, in a similar order move back, but already with a sample of odd threads. Remember that tapestry is a fabric whose manufacturing technology is very complex.

If you work with threads of different hue, then the beginning of the duck must match the selected pattern. To do this, it is enough to tie the corresponding thread with a knot to the warp thread in a certain drawing place. Do not forget about padding threads in each row. At the end of work, all the horizontal threads are attached to the knots. Next, as in the beginning of the tapestry, you should make a profit. It remains only to trim the warp threads and take their ends to knots. The design of the tapestry edges can be different: fringe, brushes, pigtails and much more.

The self-made tapestry is very laborious, so it's better to use some tips:
1. Best of all, if you prepare a sketch of the future tapestry before the work, and if you are taking it for the first time, it's worth making it a little difficult.

2. The best option in the work is the use in tapestry of yarns, homogeneous in their thickness, structure and quality. Comparing with the sketch, you also need to select the color range of threads. If you decide to use threads from previously dissolved things, you need to wash them in non-hot water to straighten them.
