Tajikistan. Kulyab - the history of the city

One of the former Soviet republics is sunny Tajikistan. The city of Kulyab is located in the valley of the river. Yakhsu, 203 kilometers from Dushanbe. Kulyab attracts many tourists with its sights. The city received the name from the Tajik word, which translates as "lake water" or "overgrown, swampy place".

Middle Ages

In the Middle Ages the city was the main one in the Bukhara Khanate. Many schools and higher educational institutions worked in Kulyab. Constantly and rapidly developing crafts and trade. Scientific and literary associations were active. In the period from 17 to 19 centuries. In the city lived forty poets. Those who went down in history: Naseh, Shokhin, Bismil and some others.

Kulob and modern Tajikistan

G. Kulyab Received the status of the city In 1934. It became the largest settlement in Eastern Bukhara. There were 20 blocks in the city. The diverse crafts were at a high level in quality and productivity. The most popular were:

Interesting attractions can please tourists in Tajikistan. The city of Kulyab is famous for the unique mountain of Khoja Mumin, which is only 22 km away from it. The mountain consists of multi-colored crystals of salt. In its place millions of years ago the waves of the ancient sea of Tethys splashed. Salt was constantly deposited on the seabed. They, in turn, were pressed by shifting rocks. As a result, the salt lay down in layers in one place and gradually formed a natural column. Then the deposits spread a little apart, and a real mountain turned out. To date, the dome of the salt mountain rises above the surface by almost a kilometer, and 4 more go into the bowels of the earth.

Not only is this interesting mountain. Tourists are attracted to its caves. They consist entirely of salt colored, multicolored iridescent stalactites. In this cave you can hear amazing natural music. It is issued by the stalactites swinging from the wind.

Another attraction, which can boast of Tajikistan (Kulyab), is the mausoleum of the world Sayyid Ali Hamadoni. The memorial complex is located in the center of the city. The mausoleum is surrounded by a park zone with majestic century-old plane trees.

The remains of the person at rest in the memorial complex belong to the poet, thinker and philosopher. In the mausoleum his son and other relatives are also buried, along with the inspector of the memorial and his mosque - Sheikh Shoki Tolikoni. He lived in the Afghan city of Tolucan.

The building is built in the traditions of the Middle Ages. At first the mausoleum had 3 portal entrances with a dome hall, which was variously decorated. The burial vault and the mosque were added to the memorial much later. The original building dates from the fifteenth century.

In the 1970s. The memorial complex (Tajikistan, Kulyab) was restored. The works were carried out with the aim of maximum preservation of the primordiality of the ancient monument. Next to it is a tombstone. Inscriptions in Persian and Arabic are engraved on it. The headstone is decorated with a geometric ornament.

On the western side of the inscription is the name of the buried - Amir Muhammad bin Shaykh Abdullah. He was the son of King Khatlon. The tombstone is rectangular and weighs about a ton. According to legend, the material was brought on elephants from India. The memorial complex (Tajikistan, Kulyab) is a place of pilgrimage not only for the local population. The mausoleum is constantly visited by thousands of tourists.

Also in the city you can visit other monuments of culture and history. For example, the mausoleums of Tillo Hallodzhi and Khoja Durbod, the fortress of Kalam Mir, the ancient settlement of Kofyrkala. And also natural objects: the mountain range "Childukhtaron" and the canyon of Sari Khosor.
