Edge stone: dimensions and shape

The curbstone has found wide application in road construction, arrangement and improvement of sidewalks, lawns, various sites, car parks, etc. Differing in its durability and strength, having a relatively low cost, it is able to fit into almost any design.

In addition to aesthetic purposes, the curb stone, the dimensions of which depend on the area of its application, can serve as a drainage system, directing torrential flows from the roads into special drains, thus strengthening the roadway.

For whatever purposes this building material is used, it is essentially the same thing. The only thing that distinguishes a curbstone is the size, to which we will return.

What are curb stones?

Depending on the field of application, this building material is of the following types:

• Road curbs. They are usually laid simultaneously with the construction of the roadway. The main purpose of these stones is to prevent the destruction of the coating, and therefore their installation is carried out by the relevant organizations that have trained specialists and the necessary equipment.

• Sidewalk. As the name suggests, they are used to isolate pedestrian paths from the carriageway, decorate lawns, flower beds and public transport stops.

• Garden. This curbstone, the dimensions of which differ in their dimensions to a smaller side, are usually used to perform decorative functions: the design of flower beds, the breakdown of the territory, the framing of paths, etc.

Regardless of the purpose, curb stones are made of fine-grained concrete. To improve performance (frost resistance, moisture resistance, strength, etc.), this is done by the method of dry vibrocompression.

How to designate curb stones

And does the GOST exist on them? A curbstone as such is not defined by any standards. However, in fact it is an airborne stone, it can very well be referred to GOST 6665-91.

Marked curb stones is quite simple. Letters denote their type (BR - direct rank, BL - straight with a tray, BW - entry, BU - straight with a broadening, BC - curvilinear, BUP - straight with intermittent broadening). Further in centimeters are specified defining curb stone dimensions (length-height-width). For example, BR-100.20.8 means that we are dealing with a direct line item with a length of 100, a height of 20 and a width of 8 centimeters.

Sizes and prices

The cost of curbstone depends on the technology of production and on the shape of the final product. So, the road border of the same length will cost less than the main, but more expensive than the garden. The same goes for dimensions.

The most commonly used meter stones (although there are curbs of 40, 50, 60, 80 cm in length) with a width of 8 to 20 cm and a height of 20 to 60 cm. The cost of this material ranges from 150 rubles. For the stone BR 100.20.8 to 990 rubles. For BR 100.60.20. More detailed information about the prices of products must be learned from a specific manufacturer.

A curb stone, the dimensions of which would be ideal for ennobling your territory, it is quite possible to make it yourself. For this, a solution consisting of equal parts of sand and cement with the addition of water is mixed. To optimize the process, gravel is added to it. The finished solution is poured into the previously prepared formwork and left to solidify.

To install a curbstone , no special technology is required. The main thing is to prepare the base, which is usually rubble and sand. The durability of the structure is ensured by the pre-laying of special geotextiles.
