When planning the construction of a fence, it is necessary first to determine the material that will be used for this purpose. And if the main quality criteria are stability, strength and durability, then the stone is the best possible option.

Stone fences are used by people from ancient times. They were powerful walls, capable of withstanding the onslaught of bad weather and detaining the enemy. They were built for years by the forces of thousands of people!

What if you decided to build a reliable defense yourself? It is possible to build a stone fence with your own hands! So you get not only protection from any unwanted intrusion, but also a beautiful landscape element.

Varieties and advantages of stone fences

So why is it worth choosing to stop on this kind of fencing? Let's consider its pluses:

  • Stone is a natural material, which means that it is safe and environmentally friendly for nature and others;
  • The service life is not limited, it will depend only on the quality of the mortar used for construction;
  • Large price range;
  • A stone fence can be installed alone;
  • High fire safety;
  • The appearance of the fence harmoniously fits into any landscape surrounding it.

A natural stone

For such a stone fence the price is quite affordable - 1 kg of material costs about 4 rubles. The cheapest option is boulder stone or cobblestone. Despite the fact that it is cheap, it has a very high strength. Of course, you can save by collecting it yourself, but you will get a fence in the only possible gloomy gray color. But this is your business, and, as they say, there is no dispute about tastes! Beautifully looks stone of red-brown color, having a rounded shape. It gives the fence a slight roughness. If you want to have a fence with a completely smooth surface, you must break the stone with a sledgehammer.

Pebbles

The least frequently used materials are gravel and pebbles. Since they are small in size and the construction of a fence of such material requires a lot of time and effort. To such a stone fence was strong enough, its base and corners make a brick. But, it should be noted that such a combination of stone and brick looks interesting enough. The cost per 1 kg is an average of 15 rubles.

Limestone

It can be of several types: mossy, shell rock, marbled. The cost per 1 m of facing - about 250 rubles. This is a fairly soft breed, it is easy to work with. But before to erect a fence from a stone of this kind, it is necessary to pre-treat it with a hydrophobizator. Since limestone absorbs moisture and in a damp and cold climate quickly collapses.

Quarry stone

This stone often has an irregular shape. For example, the length of one rib can reach 50 cm, and the other - 10 cm. It is obtained from limestone, sandstone and dolomite. Used for construction and cladding. In addition, now there is an opportunity to choose what will be this stone - wild or processed.

Sandstone

Sandstone is used for a long time, and it is also quite popular. Such a stone fence is durable, moisture resistant, perfectly tolerates frost. The surface can be polished and tilled. In addition, it can also be a specially chopped material.

Fence made of artificial stone

Today, an artificial stone is gaining popularity, because it is much cheaper than natural stone and is an ordinary concrete in its essence, which was given the appearance of natural material. Such a fence "under the stone" will last at least 50 years. But it should be remembered that the level of durability of the material will be slightly lower than the declared if it is used to build a fence near the road or in a lowland.

If you are not a professional, it is unlikely to distinguish such a stone from natural. In the market you can choose an artificial stone of any texture and color (chopped, smooth, torn, rough, etc.).

French Stone

Recently, French stone has become widespread. Choosing it, you can save on the material and build a beautiful fence of artificial stone. Huge popularity of this kind of cinder block was received directly in the Crimea, constituting a serious competition shell.

Profiled sheeting

The fence made of corrugated stone "under the stone" looks like a stone wall. It is an inexpensive material used for finishing various surfaces. Externally, the flooring does not differ from the natural stone due to offset printing. On the galvanized sheet, covered with a transparent protective layer, a pattern is applied. It turns out this fence quite colorful!

Building a stone fence with our own hands

If you are planning to build a stone fence, you need to know that this process is quite long, difficult and time consuming.

Construction technology:

  • We draw a fence marking;
  • Lay the foundation;
  • Erect fencing.

It seems that everything is easy, but let's consider the above stages in more detail.

The first stage of the material used is independent and is equally performed for each kind of fencing. It is necessary to make a preliminary drawing, to choose the length of the fence, to determine the amount of necessary materials. In parallel, we reveal the level of height on each side of the site.

The construction of the fence involves the installation of a strong tape foundation, with waterproofing, with a frame of reinforcement. Then make a formwork for the construction of pillars. It is better to make it out of boards. Next, install the formwork on the foundation, attach it to the grillage and make a masonry.

If you build from cobblestone, then pick stones of the same diameter. The mortar for bonding is done in the following way: sand is mixed with cement in a ratio of 1: 3. For beauty, you can add the dye of the desired shade (for 10 buckets 4 tablespoons). The finished mixture should not be spread. The shape of the stone in the course of the work can be adjusted with a hammer.

We put the solution on the foundation, then we install stones on it, adjusting them tightly to each other. The voids that appear should be sealed with a solution. But you need to do this extremely accurately, so that the solution does not hit the front of the stone. Clear the frozen mixture is very difficult! And in this case it is better not to use water, since the risk of its penetration into the stone is possible, and this will lead to the loss of its natural color.

After the completion of the laying of the 1st row, you must wait at least a day before proceeding to the second. The solution should harden well. Until you complete the series completely, you can not stop the work. But if you stopped it all the same, then it is necessary to water the masonry constantly, so that it will by no means freeze.

Completing the erection of the fence, it is possible to make the seams. It will give a fence of attractiveness and volume. This is done with the help of a narrow spatula for 1-1.5 cm. For the beauty of the wicket, you can make an arch.

The specialist will need about forty days to erect a 100 m fence. Of sandstone, dolomite, limestone will be faster, because they are better processed. It is possible to build a fence with your own hands, but still do not be lazy to find yourself a few assistants!
