Profile Education in Modern Schools

The creation of schools where pupils undergo specialized training is an adequate response to the wishes of the students themselves who, according to the results of the polls, expressed the opinion that the model of a simple general school has already exhausted itself and does not allow them to fully orient themselves professionally. The state in principle agrees with these statements. This is evident from the fact that the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation announced the gradual transformation of most "simple" schools into specialized educational institutions.

In essence, profile training is not the same as production or professional - they differ in their goals. The main goal pursued by specialized training is a kind of preparation for the further education of the student in the university in the chosen profession. To do this, the school curriculum introduces an in-depth study of profile, that is, those that are primarily needed for further education, subjects. This does not mean that the rest of the subjects will not be taught at all. Just profile training in school means allocating more hours of study to selected subjects. At the same time, as in the case of ordinary training, profile education in the school provides for the issuance of a certificate with final grades, not only in subjects with in-depth study, but also in other general education disciplines. The increased number of hours can be not only in the composition of the basic lessons, but also in the form of an elective, that is, additional classes.

The very concept of profile training is usually introduced from the senior classes and includes the right to self-select high school students in a priority area. The Ministry of Education and Science in the Russian Federation has developed and approved 4 basic options for which profile training can be conducted. These are profiles with a mathematical, socio-economic, technological and humanitarian bias. And each separate profile implies the study of an in-depth study of not just one object, but several. In the mathematical bias, this is mathematics and physics, and in the humanities it is literature combined with Russian and foreign languages, and so on. But these developments are purely recommendatory, and the administration of each particular school is given the right to introduce its own profile. Therefore, the list of various profiles for today has already significantly expanded. For example, according to the data of the same Ministry of Education, the formation of agrarian, medical and pedagogical profiles, as well as many others, has been noted.

Profile training can have several types of teaching in classes. This can be profile classes using specially designed curricula or classes with in-depth study of core subjects, but the most promising from the point of further admission of a student to a university are special classes that operate according to the school-university scheme. It is to the latter model, as the most promising for further career guidance in the face of the stringent demands that the modern labor market poses, and most schools are keen. But for the formation of such classes, there is a need for close interaction between the school institution and the supervising university, the teachers of which conduct electives for senior pupils in the form of additional preparatory courses. Not all schools, especially those located in rural areas, have the opportunity to establish such close cooperation with higher education institutions. Therefore here for students, as a rule, profile training is taught in the classroom with a deeper study of subjects.

In general, profile education is undoubtedly a very useful form of obtaining knowledge, allowing the younger generation to decide as soon as possible with the choice of profession and to actively prepare for its receipt.
